Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 1694 - The Waltz of Vienna

Hello my darlings! Welcome back to another Wednesday adventure from yours truly, Emma, the Pink Tutu Ballerina, writing to you live from the most charming city in Europe, Vienna, Austria!

As you know, this little Pink Tutu loves to travel, and train journeys are a particular favourite, the gentle rhythm of the wheels on the track, the rushing countryside scenery, the whispered conversations, and a touch of vintage romance, especially when wearing my trusty pink tutu!

Last week I embarked on a very special adventure from the English countryside to Vienna. It's so inspiring to step into another culture and see how their world is so different from Derbyshire, yet feels oh so familiar, too!

The journey took just over twelve hours and my lovely pink tutu held up perfectly. My fellow passengers gave me a knowing nod and some smiles, I feel my Pink Tutu is spreading joy throughout Europe! I met some wonderful people on the journey; we chatted, laughed and shared our stories over a glass of Austrian wine. It was wonderful.

Upon arrival, I took a horse-drawn carriage to my grand, pink-walled hotel, "Hotel Schmetterling", a small family-run hotel filled with exquisite art and beautiful antiques. The owner, Herr Johann, took my suitcase personally and made me feel like I had walked into a fairytale. He said I was the most stylish guest he had ever seen, and to this day, I think it might be his biggest compliment to date!

Vienna - Where Elegance Meets History

Stepping into the heart of Vienna was like stepping into a masterpiece. The magnificent architecture, from the majestic Vienna Opera House, with its towering columns, to the historic Hofburg Palace, felt like I was walking in the pages of a grand history book. There was a whimsical and timeless charm to this city.

My first few days here were all about exploration. I found myself wandering the quaint cobblestone streets, the aroma of pastries wafting through the air, and marveling at the grandness of St. Stephen's Cathedral, a breathtaking example of Gothic architecture, with its imposing spire pointing towards the sky.

The most magical moment was at sunset. Standing by the serene Danube Canal, watching the sun paint the sky in a magnificent display of oranges, reds and purples, I felt so completely at peace. It was as if Vienna held the most magical secrets just waiting to be unveiled, and the Pink Tutu felt like a little secret too!

Vienna - A Waltz Through Fashion and Culture

Vienna has this incredible spirit of artistry, and, oh my, my fellow pink tutu lovers, Vienna is also an absolute dream for fashionistas! I've already begun exploring the chic boutiques lining the Karntner Strasse, the city's most elegant shopping street, filled with designer labels, unique local brands and stunning jewellery.

Each boutique had its own character and feel. From the timeless elegance of Viennese designers to the modern edginess of new talent, I found myself utterly inspired by the sartorial trends of Vienna. I’ve already stocked up on a stunning, emerald green, silk scarf to add to my wardrobe collection - a lovely splash of colour against my pink tutus. I always love buying souvenirs for my dear mum. For her, I bought a beautiful handmade Vienna Opera House model - so detailed!

But let's be real, a trip to Vienna wouldn't be complete without indulging in the local delights, so I've been trying all sorts of delicious food! Vienna’s coffee culture is one to marvel at. The traditional Viennese coffee, “Wiener Melange”, with its creamy swirls, is definitely a must-try!

The sweet tooth in me is equally well catered for. Sachertorte, the legendary chocolate cake, is truly a decadent masterpiece, and Apfelstrudel, the apple strudel, is absolutely divine, served warm with vanilla sauce. What more could a pink tutu-wearing ballerina ask for?

Ballet - Vienna's Heartbeat

Vienna has been the home of ballet since the early 18th century, and to think the incredible Johann Strauss II waltz has been in these streets for over two hundred years makes the cobblestones feel magical. It's so deeply embedded in the city's heart.

My biggest dream here in Vienna was to watch a ballet performance at the famous Vienna State Opera. And, my fellow tutu enthusiasts, my dreams have come true! I saw a breathtaking rendition of Swan Lake. I was spellbound by the beauty and elegance of the ballet and it brought a tear to my eye! Watching the swans glide across the stage was absolutely stunning - it reminded me of why I fell in love with ballet in the first place!

There is such a joy in seeing dancers perform at their best. The way they move, the emotions they express, it is captivating! I got to watch an intense training session at the ballet school and wow! What focus and dedication! This reminded me that it's important to always strive to learn, to be better, just like these artists who push their physical boundaries. I must practice more at the dance studio.

I have fallen in love with this elegant, vibrant city, and am planning on spending the rest of my week here exploring more of its hidden gems and ballet secrets! I can already see myself returning here again and again to experience more of its magic!
