Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller, Emma, back with another post from the heart of Europe – Vienna, Austria! It's Wednesday, which means a fresh pink-tinted update for your lovely eyes. This week, Vienna's been treating me like a real-life fairytale princess – a fact not lost on me with all the waltzing, the pastries, and the beautiful palaces! Oh, and of course, the pink. This city truly has my heart.
Now, let's get down to the nitty gritty. Vienna on June 7th is the day the Viennese waltzing heart truly beats faster. I, of course, was not going to miss out on this!
First off, it was a joyous arrival in this magical city by train – it’s the ultimate romantic mode of travel, isn't it? It felt like stepping into a storybook, especially since I wore a pink and white striped dress with a delicate tulle overlay (a pink tutu, of course! What else?) and my matching vintage hat with a feather plume. All I needed was a dashing prince by my side!
Vienna itself felt so grand, every street seemed to be a movie set with a rich history oozing out of every building. I literally started doing a ballet twirl when I reached the Opera House - it's such a stunning piece of architecture! I felt like a true prima ballerina in this most beautiful city, my pink tutu swishing as I envisioned the graceful ballerinas who danced upon its stage for centuries.
Speaking of ballerinas, my mission this trip has been two-fold – 1) wear as much pink as humanly possible, 2) soak up every ounce of ballet history this city has to offer. Did you know Vienna is like the ultimate ballet dreamland? It's brimming with beautiful ballet schools and legendary theatres where the world's most famous ballerinas once graced the stage!
So, where do I even begin with my Vienna waltz of delight?
Well, the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera House) is the must-see attraction, a landmark steeped in ballet history and tradition. It's a masterpiece of baroque architecture and they were performing "Swan Lake", my all-time favourite! You know I was front and center in my best pink tulle and silk. There’s just something so graceful and timeless about ballet - it’s no wonder it has been captivating audiences for centuries.
The performance was magical! The dancers, their grace and poise, transported me to another world. I couldn't help but be moved by the beauty and emotion of the story - it's just such a powerful experience.
Vienna was truly magical, every cobblestone, every building was a reminder of a fairytale life! My second must-see, which I highly recommend you add to your itinerary, was the Hofburg Imperial Palace. Now this was truly something! From the royal ballet balls to the magnificent ballroom, the palace was so filled with glamour and grandeur – just divine! And imagine, a pink tutu would look absolutely magical amidst these royal settings, don’t you agree?
For a dash of playful magic, I had to make a pilgrimage to the Prater – a beautiful amusement park brimming with fairground delights, colourful rides and delectable food. But, of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without exploring its wonderful cafes. I spent many blissful hours sipping steaming cups of coffee and indulging in freshly baked Viennese pastries - truly divine!
One place I have to mention, was the Kunsthistorisches Museum. Its collection of art from every era - from Renaissance masterpieces to modern art – was jaw-droppingly gorgeous! You could almost imagine Marie Antoinette herself gazing at these paintings! I felt a strong need for a tulle dress – imagine, Marie Antoinette twirling in pink!
Vienna wasn’t just about culture though – I found my happy place in the lush Schönbrunn Gardens. A stunning green haven tucked in the middle of the city. Think of beautiful lakes, vibrant gardens, and charming walking trails – a delightful way to end a day exploring the city.
And speaking of exploring the city – for a change of pace I ventured beyond the city limits. The surrounding countryside is truly breathtaking. Think green rolling hills and charming villages dotted across picturesque landscapes. I found the best way to soak up the beauty was a picturesque carriage ride - think the wind in my hair, sunshine on my face, and, yes, of course, a gorgeous pink tutu.
Oh, Vienna! This city truly captures my heart with its grace, beauty, and artistic heritage! I can’t wait to come back for a third, fourth, even fifth visit. You see, darling, the best thing about travelling is finding that feeling of excitement that stays with you forever.
Don’t forget to check back next week, for a post all about a truly exquisite Ballet Boutique tucked away in Vienna's heart! It was absolutely divine! You will love my pink discoveries.
Until next time, wear pink!
Your very pink-tutu-fied Emma
