Oh my goodness, darlings! I'm simply over the moon to be back in Vienna, the city that stole my heart back in 2023. It's Wednesday, and as always, I'm whisking you away to a world of pink tutus and Viennese charm.
Today's post is all about my second trip to Vienna. After the glorious time I had exploring its majestic palaces and waltzing through its charming squares, I knew I had to come back. This city is like a dream come true for a ballerina with a penchant for the theatrical, and trust me, there's nothing I adore more than the grand elegance of Viennese ballet.
From Derbyshire to Vienna via Train and Horse...
Now, you might think getting from my quaint little village in Derbyshire to the heart of Vienna would be a journey filled with planes and frantic airport queues, but no, darling! This time, I embarked on an utterly romantic adventure.
It began with a gentle journey across the rolling English countryside, the train windows framing views of fields, ancient castles and the odd sheep in its pinkest of pink jumpers. Once I arrived in France, the sheer beauty of the countryside unfolded like a perfectly choreographed dance. Lush vineyards, rolling hills, and charming villages swirled past the windows. It was the perfect prelude to the elegant grace that awaited me in Vienna.
And then, dear readers, the magic began. Picture this: a sunny afternoon, a quiet carriage, and a gentle trot as my trusty steed, a beautiful bay gelding called Duke, took me through the last leg of my journey. Yes, this trip, dear darlings, included a horse ride! Just picture a pink tutu dancing amongst the vineyards of the Alsace region, a true pinktastic moment!
A City Dressed for a Ball
The moment I arrived in Vienna, it was like stepping onto a stage. Buildings stood tall and proud, like the performers in a grand opera, the streets seemed to echo with the rhythm of waltzes, and even the air felt infused with the heady excitement of a gala ball.
This time, Vienna embraced me with the warmth of an old friend. The cobblestone streets were instantly familiar, and the charming cafes and quaint shops were just as welcoming as before. I immediately felt at home, like I'd slipped back into a comfortable, perfectly fitting pink tutu.
Where to See Pink in Vienna?
I know you're dying to hear about my ballet adventures, so let's dive straight into the heart of it!
Vienna is known for its grand tradition of opera and ballet, and this time, I was thrilled to attend a performance of “The Sleeping Beauty” at the Vienna State Opera, the jewel in the city's cultural crown. Now, darlings, this is an opera house that truly lives up to its name! The grand auditorium is so vast, the golden chandelier so majestic, and the acoustics, oh my, simply divine!
To top it off, the production was a dream. Every pirouette and pas de deux was perfection. It was a dazzling reminder of why the Vienna State Opera is one of the world's leading opera houses. And, wouldn't you know it, my own outfit matched the opulent atmosphere perfectly - a sparkling, pale pink tutu and a bejewelled tiara! What could be more glamorous?
From Ballet to Shopping
Now, no visit to Vienna would be complete without a delightful foray into the city's fabulous boutiques! And Vienna is brimming with exquisite, feminine boutiques brimming with gorgeous creations for every ballerina in training. My favourite was the little “Savoir Faire” boutique, a hidden gem overflowing with the most delightful vintage pieces. I came home with a stunning silk scarf with a delicate floral motif - a perfect accessory to any ballerina's wardrobe.
And, of course, I had to treat myself to a "Kaffee und Kuchen" - Viennese coffee and cake! That's how I end every day in this city, sipping on a perfectly brewed coffee, surrounded by a decadent array of pastries. This is what truly embodies Viennese elegance - sweet indulgence at its best!
A Pink Tutu Legacy
As I wander through the historic heart of Vienna, I can't help but feel a deep sense of history in every cobblestone, in every majestic palace, and even in the air itself. I picture waltzing ladies with their flowing skirts, their laughter echoing in the cobblestone squares.
The city whispers of ballerinas gone by, their steps imprinted on the cobblestone streets. It’s like they’ve left behind a trail of delicate tulle and whispers of grace, waiting to inspire new generations. And that, dear darlings, is the true beauty of Vienna – a city that dances to the rhythm of history, where elegance is never out of style and every street corner seems to be whispering a beautiful melody.
This weekend, darling, let’s see what awaits. There’s always more magic to be discovered here in Vienna.
Stay tuned, darling, as I’ll be back next week with a new installment of Pink Tutu Vienna. Remember, you can catch all my weekly adventures on www.pink-tutu.com. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram for more snapshots of my adventures!
Until next time,

PS: I'm off to a lovely cafe right now. What should I order for you? A delicious "Apfelstrudel" perhaps? Or a classic Viennese coffee with cream?
