Hello my lovelies! It's Wednesday and you know what that means! It's time for a brand new #PinkTutuVienna post from yours truly, Emma, in the stunning, dreamlike city of Vienna!
I've finally made it to Vienna! It was a whirlwind journey that took me across the Alps by train. There’s nothing like watching the scenery blur past your window as you head towards a new adventure. And the moment I arrived in Vienna? Let’s just say my tutu positively twirled with excitement! The energy in this city is electric! The air buzzes with music, history, and a kind of magical sparkle that's impossible to ignore.
The past week has been a whirlwind of pink tulle, beautiful architecture, and more pastries than I ever dreamed possible. I started my Vienna escapade, naturally, with a trip to the Vienna State Opera House. Can you imagine, a pink tutu amidst the grandeur of the grand opera! This magnificent building, with its incredible history and even more incredible architecture, took my breath away. Standing inside the foyer, the opulent ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and gilded balconies simply whispered of a bygone era of beauty and elegance, and reminded me of all the ballet legends who had graced this very stage. The show itself was The Magic Flute and the combination of the musical score, the breathtaking scenery and the impressive costumes was utterly captivating!
Vienna has a rich and complex musical history - a truly passionate connection with music. And while opera is one of the most prominent aspects, there’s a reason why waltz music originates from here. My wanderings have led me down charming cobbled streets lined with grand cafes and buzzing bars. Everywhere you turn there's a symphony playing in the background, filling the air with joy and energy. Even just sipping my afternoon coffee with a slice of sachertorte at a sidewalk café is accompanied by a beautiful musical accompaniment. It truly feels like a city living and breathing music.
The highlight of my week? It has to be a trip to the Vienna Ballet Museum. This amazing museum celebrates ballet history, costumes, and dancers. They even have a collection of historic tutus - everything from elegant Romantic-era tutus made from delicate materials to flamboyant, show-stopping 20th century tutus! The history of the tutu is fascinating! It's like the history of fashion, but for dancers - every style reflects its era. There are just so many stunning and unusual pieces. Some even rival the designs of modern haute couture!
Of course, no trip to Vienna would be complete without a touch of shopping! Vienna is a veritable paradise for the sartorially minded. I’ve been busy exploring the boutiques along Kärntner Straße, searching for the perfect tutu accessory to complement my newest pink tulle acquisition (more about that in my next post!). The streets were alive with the spirit of Vienna. Every boutique window is like a curated masterpiece.
Speaking of pink, my favorite pink discovery of the week? Vienna has its very own Pink Cathedral - a truly iconic, candy-pink building! Just the kind of girly gem I can’t resist visiting. A perfect example of how a touch of colour can elevate the mundane to something unique. I think a pink cathedral could transform any city, don't you?
I know some of you love a good adventure - a little escape from the ordinary - and for those of you who share my love for horse riding I just have to recommend a beautiful ride through the Vienna Woods. There’s something truly magical about trotting along horseback in a forest, feeling the sun on your face and the breeze in your hair. And in these woods, the air has a special energy - peaceful yet full of life. It feels like a step back in time, and it certainly is a side to Vienna I wouldn't have seen on foot. If you’re visiting, be sure to try a horseback tour - trust me, you won’t regret it! It’s the perfect way to get off the beaten path and explore a different perspective on this wonderful city.
Vienna, as much as I love the traditional and classical elements, still has a strong underground and artistic culture. There's something truly special about this city. There's a strong focus on cultural engagement, especially in street and theatrical performances. It's not all grand opera, believe it or not, it's so much more, but I find those contrasts really appealing. My mission for next week: exploring the underground scene. This city will continue to amaze me and I can’t wait to share it all with you!
