Pink Tutu Post #15: A Time Travelling Tutu Trip to 1587!
Hey darlings! Emma here, your pink tutu-loving guide to all things ballet! Today we’re going on a magical time travel adventure, soaring back to 1587, to discover the very beginnings of what we now know and adore as ballet!
My time travel funding? Street ballet performances, of course! Always finding a way to spin, twirl, and spread the pink tutu love! Just last week, I did a flash mob in Nottingham market square, and let me tell you, it was absolutely enchanting! People stopped, gasped, and even took videos - all while I gracefully twirled in my darling pink tulle skirt, inspiring smiles and giggles.
But back to 1587! Remember, back then, ballet wasn’t the formal art form we see today. We were still a few decades away from King Louis XIV in France gracing the world with his royal dance prowess!
Enter: The Dance of the Courtiers
Back in 1587, dancing was a royal pastime! Picture the glittering courts of Europe, buzzing with lavish events, filled with grand lords and ladies in their most dazzling finery. And amongst the feasting and music, there were intricate dance forms - more like pageants or theatrical performances.
The birth of a Passion!
Think about it, darlings - this is where our passion for storytelling through movement first blossomed! These early forms of ballet involved themes like mythology and chivalry, performed by talented, talented courtiers who were masters of grace and elegant gestures!
A World Away From the Tutu
Imagine it! There wasn't even a hint of our modern tutus yet! Instead of the billowing silk, women wore stunning, flowing gowns, sometimes even laced bodices, which must have been incredible to see them pirouette in! No pink tutus for these ladies just yet! Sigh
Glimmers of Ballet in 1587
However, a tiny glimmer of our beloved ballet can be found in these court dances! These dances, featuring carefully planned steps and gestures, marked the very first stirrings of what ballet would evolve into. This passion, this art form, is deeply intertwined with the courtly life, and even though these dances lacked a structured framework, they were full of passion and expression!
Ballet in the Spotlight
Of course, in 1587, the world was very different! Think about all the fantastic theater we have nowadays. The theatre, back then, was primarily centered around Shakespeare’s plays and plays performed in England at the Globe Theatre, and that's not the only exciting part! There were also lavish court performances by royal ballet dancers, complete with music and incredible costumes - they must have been spectacular to witness!
Ballet Fashion 1587
While we’re on the topic of ballet and fashion, let's discuss 1587’s dress style, darling! Imagine! No sequins! No lycra! They wore full, beautiful silk skirts, intricately decorated with lavish patterns. The bodices were usually laced for a touch of that corseted, structured elegance that defines femininity. There's something magical about thinking about the beauty of these elegant movements in their incredible outfits.
Finding Inspiration
This is where I truly find inspiration for my modern tutu looks, you know? The simplicity, the grace, the stunning fabrics. Sometimes, the best way to create something truly unique is by looking back at history, and taking that essence and bringing it forward in a completely modern way. I believe every dancer has the potential to shine.
Spreading Pink Tutu Joy
But remember, this blog post isn't just about history - it's about bringing a sprinkle of ballet magic into your world! We can find joy and grace in everything, whether it's a classic performance or a playful twirl on the streets! So, embrace your inner ballerina, darlings. I can't wait to hear your stories and see you spread the joy of ballet - even if you’re wearing a denim jacket or a vibrant print dress! Because sometimes, the most inspiring outfits come from taking what’s classic and creating a modern twist, you know?
That’s all for now, darling. Be sure to check back next week as we explore another historical gem. Don’t forget, we have a big performance next Saturday at Derby Market Square, all dressed in our most stunning tutus. Don't miss out, come down and get a picture with your pink-tutu loving friend, Emma! Until next time, darlings! Keep twirling!
