Pink-Tutu.com: Ballet History News - Episode 26: The Spark of 1598!
Hey my loves! Emma here, ready to transport you back in time to 1598! Grab your pink tutus and hold onto your pointe shoes, because today, we're diving deep into the spark of what we know as ballet today! 🩰💖
As you know, I’m absolutely obsessed with all things ballet, and especially the stories that led to where we are today. I think the history of ballet is fascinating. Did you know that back in the 16th Century, the early form of ballet we know today actually wasn’t really a thing yet? That's right! It was still simmering in its infancy, evolving from Court Dances, medieval theatrical performances, and of course, Italian Renaissance ideas! 🇮🇹
Think of 1598 like planting a tiny little pink ballerina seed - this is the year it all truly started! Now, don't picture our grand ballerinas with tutus soaring through the air, it's nothing like that! We're talking simple, elegant steps in fantastic costumes. Can you imagine what that must have been like? You bet your tulle I’d be at the front row of any performances going on back then! 😍
The seeds of what we now consider ballet, those tiny steps in 1598, started coming together in the Court of King Henry IV, a royal monarch of England, yes, you heard right, England! Can you imagine our Derbyshire home playing such a pivotal role? 🥳 You might say we've got some amazing ballet roots here!
One of the key people we need to remember is Louis of Bruges - an incredibly stylish dancer and choregrapher who played a key role in those early developments. Now, if you’ve ever worn a pink tutu, give thanks to this fella because this incredible dancer loved elaborate costuming, and believe me, that paved the way for some extraordinary and dazzling looks that we now love. Think big tutus, flowing ribbons, extravagant embroidery! 🎀
Now, even back then, dancing was seen as divine and even healing, so I think we can definitely thank these incredible individuals for the way that dance helps everyone today, be it on the stage, or simply dancing freely in your home. We’re definitely in a pink tutu kind of mood because this early ballet was more about grace and beauty and elegant, gentle movement rather than the athletic perfection of today's ballet stars. 🤩
If you want to imagine those elegant steps, just imagine our iconic waltz – an early, very influential style. So you see, my lovely followers, this is what's amazing about history! We learn where all those gorgeous ballet moves, those graceful ballets and fantastic tutus come from! 🥰
As for this early, almost primitive ballet, it had little of our intricate storytelling ballets – not yet! Instead, it was like one of our fancy street ballet performances. Just think, people walking past simply enjoying the art, just as we love to enjoy street dancing today! It makes me want to start street performing with all those who enjoy a pink tutu, and, of course, ballet. What a magical experience that would be. Picture it! 🤩💖
What To See In The World Of Ballet in 1598:Ok, time to dive into those fantastic events of 1598, but, alas, there’s not much documented. However, you know your darling Emma always loves digging a bit deeper to give you a glimpse into that fascinating history of our beautiful ballet! 🤩
Imagine that, you’ve popped into a time-traveling tutu to visit this incredible year in history! It might be tempting to search for grand ballet, but remember, back then, it's just taking its very first steps. Don’t expect those elegant, professional productions you see today.
But what you would find are spectacular dances within the Courts, especially those within the Court of Henry IV. Remember our Louis of Bruges? These courtly productions weren't full-length stories – no Sleeping Beauty yet! Think of them more like fancy pageants, celebrating kings and magnificent royals – those royal fashion moments to die for! 🤩
If you happen to find yourself wandering a castle grounds or some fashionable theatre – keep your eyes peeled! Remember those simple but sophisticated steps, the elegance of the dancers, and the beautiful, extravagant costumes, perhaps an embroidered skirt or a silk sash or oh the fabulous jewels. If we could wear some of those jewels! Those would look amazing on stage, I promise you that. ✨💖
What's most exciting? Ballet is a form of entertainment loved by everyone. A huge thank you to Louis of Bruges for introducing dance as a central attraction for all, not just for kings and queens but everyone! 🤩
Don't worry - I've been making notes, and, believe me, we'll explore what comes next in our amazing journey through history! As usual, the very next post is going to be absolutely magical. 💖
Stay sparkly,
Emma 🩰✨
