Pink Tutu News: Issue #95 - 1667: A New Era for Dance! 🩰👑

Hey beautiful ballet lovers! Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, ready to take you on a whimsical trip back in time!

This week, we’re hopping on our sparkly time machine (don’t ask, it’s a long story… involving glitter cannons and a rogue ballet slipper) and landing smack-dab in the year 1667. Now, picture it: powdered wigs, fancy dresses, and…drumroll… the very first ballet school ever established! Yes, ladies and gents, the world of ballet was about to take a twirl in a whole new direction.

But before we go all ‘leaping and twirling’, let’s delve into the Parisian world of 1667. It’s all about elegance and opulence, and, you know what that means? FASHIONS! We're talking corsets and flowing silks, hair coiffed into elaborate curls and embellished with sparkling jewels. But this wasn't just about looks. It was about courtly social rituals, intricate dances, and expressing the emotions of the time.

Now, let's meet the king who sparked this ballet revolution. His name was King Louis XIV, known to his fans as "The Sun King," (a pretty epic nickname if you ask me!). King Louis wasn’t just about ruling; he was a man who LOVED dancing, LOVED costumes, and LOV-ED showing off. It’s this passion that propelled him to open The Royal Academy of Dance (now, isn’t that a fabulous name!). This was not just a ballet school, but a whole theatrical academy. It trained dancers in technique and introduced formal choreographies, transforming how we see and enjoy dance to this day!

Think of this like ballet going from a charming local performance to a glamorous Broadway production – a big, bold shift! Imagine the thrill! It’s almost as if I can feel the rush of excitement and the magic in the air! Now, in the year 1667, there was no pink tutu as we know it…but if you’ve got your eye on history like I do, you know this is where the spark for the ballet world ignited!

Ballet in 1667 wasn't just about pretty twirls and fancy footwork; it was a way of telling stories through movement, a visual poem about emotions and royal grandeur. And for a royalist (and ballet enthusiast) like Louis XIV, who else better to lead the dance revolution?

But that's not all, darling! We have another amazing news story - a new kind of ballet footwear! Think of it - ballet shoes designed specifically for pointe work! Can you believe it? The soles (pardon the pun!) of these new footwear had special pieces added for support and elegance. Now that is ballet progress. It allowed the dancers to pointe their way through routines with grace and even greater agility! Now if only those pointe shoes were available in pink... but we can't always have our pink tutus AND the newest pointe shoes... yet, at least.

Let's rewind to what else the ballet world was buzzing about in 1667:

  • The Royal Academy of Dance wasn't the only highlight - the stage was alive with plays, comedies and musicals that showcased music and choreography in exciting new ways!

    • The fashion scenes was a world of beauty. Imagine the silks, the extravagant costumes worn on the stage - all dazzlingly elaborate and intricate, perfect for catching those dance moves and the emotions they evoke. It’s like being transported to another era and feeling the emotions in the way people in 1667 would feel, right?

A Glimpse into The World of Pink:

And of course, let's sprinkle a bit of Pink Tutu Magic onto this history trip! Now, 1667 might not be our pink tutu era, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find inspiration! I imagine those costumes worn by dancers, perhaps incorporating a dash of pink for elegance, femininity and sheer grace! Maybe a rosy ribbon here, a delicate pink flower on a shoulder, something to catch the eye and hint at the Pink Tutu aesthetic to come.

My loves, keep twirling and dancing, for this isn’t just a dance…it’s a ballet history lesson that brings us closer to our pink tutu dreams!

Next week, I’m taking us back to 1668… another fabulous year in the dance world! I've got exciting discoveries, new moves to talk about and maybe a sneak peek into some of those beautiful ballet costumes.

Remember, a pink tutu makes the world a prettier place, one twirl at a time.

Until then, dance beautifully and spread the pink tutu magic!

XOXO, Emma 💕🩰
