The year 1819 saw ballet taking its place as a captivating and cherished art form across the globe. I’m talking stunning performances in glittering theatres, mesmerising dances that captivated audiences, and innovative choreography that left everyone breathless. It's a true golden age for ballet!

So let's begin our trip back in time, darlings, and explore what delights this year had in store.

Ballet's Fashionable Leap: 1819 Styles!

Oh, darling! Talk about a dazzling display of fashion! 1819's ballet style was pure romance! We're talking billowing silk gowns, fluttering sleeves, and headdresses adorned with feathers. It's just delightful! You can bet your bottom dollar, my pink tutu's not going to miss out on these inspiring styles!

Imagine billowing tulle and delicate floral embellishments adorning ballerinas. Think ethereal tulle, perfectly paired with flowing chiffon. Imagine the delicate detail! Oh, darling, it's pure ballet fashion heaven!

For the boys in tights, you could expect tight-fitting tunics, often adorned with elaborate designs, with short breeches revealing exquisite silk stockings. A real spectacle!

And speaking of tights! Oh darling! Did I tell you my recent trip to Derbyshire, right in the heart of England, was such a dream! We went to a lovely market just like the ones back then. Imagine stalls overflowing with vibrant fabrics. Oh! It had me dreaming up my next tutu.

Think shimmering silks, billowing fabrics. Maybe a bit of lace for added whimsy, perfect for creating my dream tutu - just imagine it, darlings! Oh, this ballet-lover can't get enough!

From Paris to the World!

Paris, oh Paris, you really know how to put on a show, darlings! It's like the centre of the world for all things theatrical and just SO chic!

The Paris Opera was a haven for ballet aficionados.

Imagine exquisite performances, breathtaking ballets!

The Parisian ballet scene was ablaze with innovative choreographers, dancers who could literally steal the show. And then, we've got to talk about the audiences. Those elegant ladies and gentlemen decked out in their finery! Oh, darling, that was an incredible scene, worthy of all the fashions of the world.

The Theatre de l'Opéra was the place to be seen and the dancers - oh my! I am so lucky to have travelled through time and witness all of this in person.

Jean Coralli, one of the world’s finest dancers, was a force to be reckoned with. We are talking amazing artistry, exceptional techniques. His dance steps are legendary, and you know, he wasn't shy of showcasing the beauty of the human form in those flowing silk costumes with all those gorgeous, flowing movements! It was such an elegant and artistic display, pure perfection, really!

And Don't Forget Our Friends across the Channel!

While Paris stole the show with its opulence and grandeur, the UK held its own with some delightful, romantic ballets too.

England was home to a burgeoning ballet scene. The Royal Opera House, a gem that continues to grace our modern world, was abuzz with the excitement of the time! You can just imagine, it would have been filled with a vibrant energy, everyone wanting to see and be seen!

The passion and the craft - you could feel the energy from the stage, right through the audience. It's incredible what ballet was capable of in those days!
