Pink Tutu Time Travel - Post 64: A Flutter Through 1925

Hello my darlings, Emma here, ready to whisk you off on another dazzling, time-traveling adventure! This month, we're shimmying back to the roaring twenties, to April 4th, 1925. Get those feather boas ready, my lovelies, because we're going to the grandest of grand balls. Buckle your sequins and let's travel in my magical, oh-so-pink time-traveling tutu!

You see, darling, April 4th, 1925, was a Thursday. Now, if you think of the 20s, you think flapper dresses, jazz, and an energy that's just so wonderfully alive. Well, picture that in a beautifully shimmering pink, and you've got a picture of where we're headed, babes! I bet you're all wondering, “But Emma, darling, what was going on in the drag world in 1925? Was there even *drag? *”

Oh my sweet little darlings, you really are just dripping in sass today! The drag scene, you see, wasn't called drag yet. Back then, we were cross-dressing. Yes, that's right, there were bold and fabulous ladies defying the norms, blurring the lines, and shaking the whole darn system! There was still so much societal prejudice, but our fierce forerunners didn’t let it dim their sequins.

But how do we travel to 1925, darling? How do I get my hands on a piece of history in the pink-est way possible? Why, it’s the grand, glittering magic of my tutu, of course! A swish here, a twirl there, and I'm transported across time. I can tell you, darling, I am one sparkly, pink-tutu wearing sorceress of time! It is magical and oh so very stylish.

Now, before I get carried away about the beauty of my time-traveling tutu, we must get back to our lovely date!

Think of the roaring twenties in all its dazzling glory. The Jazz Age was bursting with creativity! So imagine, darling, a world that celebrated expression! People dressed for impact, whether on the streets or in the theatre, and that was enough to really stand out, to express yourself and be your best fabulous self. In my little tutu, it's like I'm the lead performer of the Pink-tutu Variety Revue, but without the dancing – though that does seem very tempting, especially with all the flapper dances, like the Charleston and the Shimmy. Oh, darling, how delightful to watch everyone sway and spin!

One of the amazing drag queens from the 20s that really resonates with my fashion sensibility, and one I absolutely adore is Evelyn Nesbit, oh darling, such glamour! She was a woman of so many talents - a fashion icon, a showgirl, an actress! So much more than your average stage persona, darlings.

Just picture a scene straight out of the old Hollywood pictures, with the velvet curtains swishing back to reveal an amazing flapper show. I bet you can imagine how stunning this beautiful, courageous woman looked! Imagine her, all dolled up in a feather boa, those famous wide eyes gazing at her audience as she effortlessly shimmied through a tango, making the entire theatre pulse with an irresistible rhythm, oh darling, imagine it! She was truly one of a kind.

In 1925, though it may seem a world apart from our world of glitter, it's fascinating to see the foundations for modern drag performances taking shape, those first few dazzling steps on that beautiful, shimmering stage of expression! We can take a trip into the world of Broadway, darling, the heart of performing, where it is absolutely dazzling to see a stage production! In the 20s, theatre was so flamboyant, an escape from the routine, an outlet to escape to a world of entertainment, and just beautiful pure escapism, so it's not surprising to find shows with drag performers were a big draw for audiences! Imagine them on stage in all their glory - feather boas and sparkly costumes, and a wonderful spirit that was almost magical, darlings. It just sounds divine.

Back in my Derbyshire home, though it wasn't as glittering as those bright city lights, you wouldn't be surprised to see a few glamorous ladies enjoying a local show with their fellow fashion enthusiasts.

You see, darling, whether on a grand stage or at a little cabaret, there's magic in expressing yourself. And that, darlings, is the magic that truly matters. We should celebrate it wherever we find it, through time and in this time!

We can all take a page from those brave souls in the roaring twenties and channel our inner performers, our most dazzling selves. Just like Evelyn Nesbit, who redefined beauty and style for the era! We should own our style, we should own those glitter gowns, sequins, feather boas! You know me, darlings - a big supporter of all those bright, bold colours and the ultimate pink. That's right, even back in 1925, it’s like my time-traveling pink tutu knew how much everyone loved it! We can keep those bold colours shining in every era!

The roaring twenties was a time of incredible transformation, and what a marvelous inspiration for us today! And don't worry about those old fashion prejudices, because even back then, there were some very special folks who simply didn’t mind, who wanted to see the world become the amazing stage we dream of. And for those of us who live for the glitter and glamor, that is enough to keep us strutting with pride through every generation.

Now, darling, that's it for me this month! Don't forget to come back to pink-tutu.com next month, for another fab trip in time. Be sure to keep a lookout for new postings, you know how much I adore keeping in touch.

See you next month darlings! Until then, stay bright, be glamorous, and may all your tutus be pink.

Emma x
