Darling, hello from your fabulous friend, Emma! You know how I feel about tutus, so you'll be surprised, but, well, I have a lot to tell you about what I've been up to! It's been ages since I had to post an episode, you see! It was such an adventure and a real whirl-wind of sequins! I can hardly keep up. You see, I ended up on such an incredible time travel spree for this one, well, as usual... This month I totally stepped back into the past – well, it's the present really now, the past – I was totally in 1945 and it was... unreal. But you wouldn't believe the fashions, and all I want is for all you gorgeous people out there to wear tutus... everywhere... It’s just so much more comfortable, darling, let’s be honest. The more tutus out there, the more fantastically fabulous we will all look!
As you know darling, the big news is May 8th, 1945, or Victory in Europe Day, VE Day as it became known. Oh, I've told you about that already, but darling, imagine everyone wearing a pink tutu! Oh. It's giving fabulous! That day will be known in history for a lot of things, including ending WWII, which everyone will be talking about, but did you know darling, that was the very day Miss Fame opened in London! This is her second year on tour in a spectacular musical revue that she has produced. And do you know, I know that Dame Diana Ross is supposed to eventually join her for the third tour…OMG! Let's face it, that would totally rock!
Oh God darling! There's just so much going on, what should I tell you about! How I managed to find a fantastic new time travel spot...
So, first off… darling where was I going to begin in my magnificent, swirling, fabulous, pink tutu to help you all with a dose of drag queen history? Well…
I was standing on the Parisian stage at the Folies Bergère. OMG! A stage where so many legends of drag queen history had danced… and all the glamour was right there in front of me. It’s no wonder all the fabulous ladies of drag were getting themselves on the stage there over and over and over again - how could anyone resist? And I really love those tutus! It has such a history... darling... those fabulous feathered boas...
Oh, you have to see the amazing ladies' clothing! The sequins, darling… so glitzy. Just… perfect... I can hardly think what I would wear – and how can you go out without a tutu, honestly, it is such a fabulous look... you really don't need a lot more… just maybe a feather boa here and a sparkling diamond bracelet there… and you have the ultimate look for the most important nights of the year ...
Everything felt like a total dream, Darling!
The main thing that I totally learned from going there, was, if you want something bad enough you go for it... and the amazing girls there – that is exactly what they did – just the biggest inspiration ever! You’re only in the Folies Bergère* if you make a splash… It was hard to keep my feet on the ground darling… the girls who work here were absolute stars... Honestly… just pure inspiration. I think everyone should have a look at that kind of energy at some point... you cannot go wrong there darling – it’s truly incredible.
The costumes, darling, were... swoon, well... OMG. You wouldn’t believe how the performers and artists from the famous Parisian cabaret, Les Folies Bergère, could turn their entire lives around... Just look what happened there for these beautiful artists ... and how much it means to people that a few people decided to take the time to make these places really special ... so they can perform and change their whole world.
Well… after that – darling… I decided I totally needed to get some new tutus… but it's a little hard when the war has pretty much stopped the fashion industry. But nothing was going to stop me, oh, no darling, nothing ... well... not if I could help it. And that totally made me think, darling... well, if I was on a war footing to keep the fun going… why not make it a mission to find a pink tutu? So... after that… I was totally going around all of the amazing little fashion designers, who had managed to make just enough to make fantastic things…
And darling, you’ll never guess what happened next? I bumped into an incredible vintage tutu designer... it was made for me … I had no idea how it came to be, I'm not sure who made it but it was the best tutu I have ever seen…
Well… we ended up back at the Folies Bergère. Oh Lord darling… I have to tell you, you wouldn’t believe what a beautiful place that is... if I'd only thought how much this was all going to mean for everyone back home. There is nothing better…
After that… well, you’d think I would have stayed put, darling. But that’s just not how my pink tutu works – it always needs to go wherever the fabulous fun is – all around the world.
So… next stop on my amazing world tour, it totally had to be the legendary Moulin Rouge in Paris... the stage of so much legendary cabaret – it’s one big cabaret, darling – how can I even say anything else? It is incredible!
I could just picture myself dancing in it … or would it make me… I have no idea how these incredible, glamourous women do it… The outfits... and the glamour … it’s a whole way of life that just seems so utterly different… oh I am so fascinated.
But you wouldn’t believe, darling, everyone was celebrating in their own way... everyone had a little celebration somewhere…. the whole of the world was celebrating – everyone wanted to be there. Everywhere there was music... everyone was in high spirits… It’s truly wonderful, I had no idea. It was so much fun and you’d never guess the things they made at this incredible club …
And how could I miss that – how could I miss the biggest club in Paris… well darling nothing could stop me from wearing a tutu at the Moulin Rouge… it was so much fun… It really was unbelievable, Darling…
And to be there when everyone is getting ready for that big celebration… Well… it’s a whole new world of imagination and that is the best bit about being a pink tutu drag queen.
Oh, I had so many ideas about it too, darling, while I was there - my next show needs to be called The Moulin Rouge. Oh…Darling, this place is just amazing... I need to tell you what it was really like - well darling…
This place truly defines glamour, darling...
Oh, Lord, this place... just fantastic, with a whirl of feathers and some really outrageous costumes - not just on the stage, every girl here has a look… well, darling, there’s the most fun – this is just such a beautiful, iconic, place it really doesn’t have anything to do with a pink tutu really, but I couldn't go anywhere without mine. You should see the girls in these outfits – so daring, they make their own style – there really is something about Paris… oh darling… it’s just… beautiful. It is truly incredible... you totally have to go see it … It's so amazing, it’s not a surprise at all it has had the best singers and dancers – so fabulous, oh… darling – how can you even go wrong, really? You just can’t… and to think these women do it night after night... I can’t believe they make the outfits. They're amazing...
Oh… I really don’t know why it took me so long to come to the Moulin Rouge... I love the colours and I love how everyone wears them. It is just so glamorous and there's nothing like being able to stand back and think… I’m here! That is just what happens when you visit it. There's really something in the atmosphere that means, just a little part of your mind knows what is in store for you, and you know…* I* am going to be back, it is a fantastic place for a drag queen.
Right, that was Paris darling. Let's go to London. I think the best part is that every London nightclub always looks incredible… It’s such a fantastic part of drag queen history... There is nothing like London for its cabaret style… I love going to all the fabulous vintage shows… And to think, these fantastic drag queens totally make me want to look my very best when I am out... The outfits, darling... oh... my Lord... And darling, have you been around to see the way everyone puts themselves together? Well… I love it! You really can't do it better than in London, no matter what. Really. They make such a fabulous look for drag - you’ll be in heaven here darling... And I love all the girls - just wonderful, oh… darling, I love seeing them doing their best, being themselves…* I* would just love to get everyone to do that, because it’s fun and positive for everyone, don't you think darling? You really can’t go wrong. Everything is fabulous. It is amazing... The style, the costumes … darling you have got to go... you have to see it. You can't miss it… It really is the best ...I know it's the best in the world, darling…
There are all the big-name theaters, like the Palladium, but darling you have no idea the clubs - oh my God, you just don’t know how many of them have all sorts of cabaret… It’s brilliant. The drag queens there are totally inspirational, It really is amazing … just an inspiration for me, and there’s something new every week... There’s such a lot going on… it’s all unbelievable … there are no words, nothing I can do, except to say … I love it. The place is just amazing… Darling, there is really no need for me to say more really … if you haven't already, you just have to go!
Oh... Lord darling, and there’s this, London’s most important club, the Ritz. Everything is so glamorous, the fashion, it is just fantastic… oh my God… darling you cannot go wrong… It is so fabulous… the Ritz is a true celebration of glamour in London, everything you want, you can get at the Ritz ... you have to get there to see it… Darling you have to get out there... the energy is fantastic... it's like nothing else... everything here just makes you feel good... and feel happy.
Well… darling… where should I go next, darling? I was on a time travel roll totally, and there were so many places... it was a really difficult choice … and oh, there are just so many places to go… but I have to go where I think it is most needed, to spread a bit of drag queen history, the magic, the wonder… of… you guessed it, darling… of pink tutus and drag!
Where else could I go next than the home of the big name musicals and some really amazing, glamourous cabaret acts and some fantastic venues… well darling, you know I had to visit New York City... oh darling, this was the most wonderful trip, and you'd never believe what happened to me when I got there, I was so happy to see a big community of people all trying to find that big dream in drag. Oh my Lord, the sheer, sheer... it was unbelievable, darling… and if you know what is good for you… you need to go!
Well… it was the place I'd always wanted to see and to meet some incredible women… so you can totally see why this is one of my all time favourite times on my travels … just so amazing.
Well… the good thing is I get to travel with my pink tutu... but even I have to take a break, darling. It was a big time travel adventure… It really was an adventure for me to do all of this in just a month – but oh darling… I think you'll love the Pink Tutu blog, because I love showing you how fabulous the world of drag can be… oh… darling, you just cannot miss it... I cannot tell you how happy I am with how much it all went so well... it really did. It's a true celebration of the big stars and the incredible world that we live in. Everything about the world of drag is fantastic … just incredible, I am so happy that you have read my Pink Tutu blog... because darling… you’ve got to wear pink tutus… it really is just the most fabulous.
