Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, time-travelling drag queen blogger, and welcome back to another fabulous trip through the annals of drag history!

Today marks post number 558 on www.pink-tutu.com, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be taking you all the way back to June 6th, 1966, a date bursting with iconic drag energy, which I've found myself twirling into with my trusty pink, time-travelling tutu. Buckle up, darlings, because this journey is going to be absolutely divine!

I have to tell you, I just adore a good trip to the past! It gives me such a boost to see how far our art form has come, and I have a feeling this trip is going to be a real gem. You know me, I just can't get enough of vintage style and the magic of those bygone eras, and let me tell you, 1966 is s-i-z-z-l-i-n-g with glamour.

As you know, my darling readers, the lifeblood of my time travels is the fabulous drag performances I put on around the world. A quick twirl in my trusty pink tutu, and poof! – I’m whisked off to some other era, performing for enthralled audiences in some of the most incredible venues you could imagine. This time around, I was in the bustling heart of New York City. The energy in the air was palpable – excitement crackled off every building!

Let's face it, darling, in 1966, New York was the epicentre of the drag universe. Drag queens were the lifeblood of the underground scene, defying norms, pushing boundaries, and dazzling crowds with their performances in legendary venues like The Stonewall Inn, and you know I just had to dip my little toe into that glorious scene.

Now, before we dive headfirst into the whirlwind of 1966, a little chat about my latest project – the "Every Body in a Pink Tutu" campaign! Yes, you heard that right, my darlings! I'm on a mission to have the entire world twirling in the most fabulous pink tutus you’ve ever laid eyes on. My vision? A planet bathed in pink tulle, each and every one of us embodying that sweet, feminine power! So join me, lovelies, and let’s make this vision a reality!

Right, let’s get back to our dazzling trip through time!

My dear diary, oh my dearest diary, June 6th, 1966 – the day that forever etched its place in the hearts of drag queens and all those who champion their beautiful art! The energy was absolutely electric, my darlings. Think “Hairspray,” but way more gritty and underground.

I strolled down the streets, soaking in the energy of this iconic time, all the while, of course, showcasing the finest in ballet fashion: a delicate pink tutu, paired with shimmering white satin gloves. It felt so fitting! Think whimsical yet fierce - the ultimate nod to the fabulousness of both ballet and drag!

Let me tell you, even for this seasoned time-traveller, the atmosphere was electrifying! It felt like every corner pulsed with energy – drag shows popping up in back rooms, street performances exploding into impromptu dances. I saw groups of amazing women sporting the most beautiful and intricate gowns. Think sparkly dresses, bold makeup, and big, bold hair - I felt myself just melting into this incredible style!

As I was strutting down the streets, a group of drag queens beckoned me towards a bustling bar. Now, you know I can never say no to a good show, and what a show it was! This wasn’t just about singing and dancing, darlings, this was expression, this was living the truth, this was art!

Oh, the excitement! The costumes, the energy, the incredible lip-syncing! It was a melting pot of gender-bending glamour and you could feel the history just buzzing around.

While the evening was phenomenal, you know me, I’m always looking for a bit of retail therapy to top off my travel! After the drag extravaganza, I was off to one of those fantastic, independent fashion stores bursting with vintage glam. Imagine shimmering dresses, bold fabrics, feather boas galore, the perfect place to find something spectacular to add to my personal collection! And I, of course, snagged myself a few truly unique items, treasures of this era that I know will never go out of style!

As my time travel journey through this remarkable June 6th came to a close, I reflected on the legacy of these iconic drag queens and their undeniable contribution to our art form. 1966, my darlings, is not just a year in the past, but a powerful symbol of the resilience, creativity, and defiance of our beautiful drag community.

This trip left me with a tremendous sense of appreciation and a burning desire to spread the gospel of pink tutus to every corner of the world! Just imagine, darlings – every individual expressing themselves with the unbridled joy and freedom that a pink tutu embodies. A world full of pink twirling wonder - that's a future worth working towards, wouldn’t you say?

Until next month, darling readers, keep on twirling and let your inner pink tutu shine!

Love, Emma
