Well, honey, guess what! Next week, I'm bringing the whole pink-tutu energy to The Spangled Stage in Derby! That's right, right here in my hometown, folks! We're gonna shake things up, I tell you, all for a good cause. Come say hello, catch some glamorous routines, and even throw a few pounds towards helping our local youth theatre project! It'll be fantastically fabulous!
Speaking of fabulousness, darling, back to our historical excursion! My fabulous 1966 timelineā¦ well, it was practically screaming with glitter! Remember those old underground drag balls from the late Fifties? Well, July 7th, 1966 was positively dripping with a fabulous extension of that vibe! From the bustling streets of New York to the vibrant scenes in San Francisco, drag queens were making a serious statement with their vibrant style and boundless energy!
Just imagine, my darlings! Imagine, a drag ball at the Starlight Ballroom in New York, with its electric, flamboyant energy, where performances by icons like The Lady Chablis had the crowds cheering! Or picturing the legendary Cockettes taking the stage in San Francisco, weaving their fantastical, theatricality-filled stories of transformation! These queens were groundbreaking! They were trailblazers!
Just as we all embrace a diversity of beautiful self-expression now, darlings, these incredible performers were challenging social norms and redefining what beauty really meant. From the sharp, structured looks of the ballroom scene to the expressive theatricality of the Cockettes, it was an explosion of art, fashion, and self-discovery!
As for the theatre, my dear, what better way to spend a glorious summer evening than in the presence of divine drama queens! And this date, oh my goodness! I was absolutely thrilled! This July 7th was graced by the brilliance of āMameā at the Winter Garden Theater! Oh, honey, just thinking of that spectacle of dance, music, and sheer joy! And can we talk about Angela Lansbury? My absolute favourite! Her captivating stage presence is just unforgettable.
My pink tutu practically twirled me right into the show, dears! Just think, I got to witness Lansbury strutting across the stage in her full-on glamourous gown, channeling the spirit of that outrageous Mame character - truly a masterpiece in all her fabulous glory! And darling, remember that classic song āIf I'm Your Girl, Just Give Me One Good Timeā? My darlings, you couldn't help but smile! It's practically a hymn for all us fabulous folks who know how to have a good time!
Now, don't get me wrong, darlings, not all the fun was limited to New York. While the āMameā fever was running high across the USA, we canāt forget London! There, the West End was buzzing with the fabulous show, "The Sound of Music," starring the lovely Elizabeth Seal! This sweet, enchanting production captured the hearts of everyone who watched.
As I sashayed through London streets on that July night, dears, I could feel the magic in the air! Imagine walking into a theatre, surrounded by vibrant personalities, everyone lost in the world of beautiful harmonies and powerful story-telling. Just like weāve done for decades, theatre provides a special kind of escape. It invites you into worlds full of love, life, and laughter, which is why I still consider Londonās theatre scene one of the greatest places to witness theatrical artistry worldwide.
Oh, darling, do you remember my pink tulle outfit for the night, dears? Imagine a custom creation with the biggest, most beautiful bow youāve ever seen! My sequined tulle flowed as gracefully as my time-traveling adventures, leaving a shimmering trail behind me, even as I travelled from Broadwayās glittering stage to the enchanting West End!
