Hello, darlings! Emma here, your fabulous time-traveling, tutu-adoring, pink-loving blogger! Today, I'm shimmying back to May 5th, 1971, where the disco ball is just beginning to sparkle!
I must confess, darlings, my time traveling pink tutu had a few hiccups today. It's a real head-scratcher navigating the fabric of time, and sometimes I find myself landing in the middle of the action...and by "action" I mean, landing straight into a massive pile of glitter, mid-show, at the iconic "The Stonewall Inn". It's a classic!
Anyway, I just brushed myself off and joined the party. Now, back to 1971! The air was electric with energy, and the crowd was abuzz with anticipation for the night's entertainment. As I glided into the packed establishment, my pink tutu catching the stage lights, a rush of exhilaration flooded me.
You know, the energy in the Stonewall Inn was simply divine, my darlings. And as the queens took the stage, it was all about attitude and personality! These early disco queens, dressed in dazzling bellbottoms and shimmering sequined outfits, were masters of creating theatrical flair. Oh, I was simply enchanted by their boldness! They were breaking free, showcasing their fabulous individuality and making a statement.
There was this one queen, "Miss Fifi", I swear, her name was just pure glitz and glamour! Now, I'm not saying that "Miss Fifi" looked exactly like a drag queen today, darling, but her confidence and style were certainly something special. She moved like a dancer, and I could practically feel her passion as she brought her entire heart into the performance. She even did a dazzling number with this shimmering, golden feather boa. She sashayed, she flicked those feathers, and the crowd went wild!
What amazed me the most, was their acceptance of diversity and freedom. In a time when it wasn't easy to express your true self, they celebrated every shade of beauty and created a sanctuary for the queer community. I, of course, had a ball. I joined the party with gusto! Dancing, clapping, even, (dare I confess) singing along to a song called "Love Train". Yes, darlings, I love the music from the '70s, it is fabulous! I even managed to snag a picture of the bar's signature glitter-covered cocktail (just don't tell the bartender, my pink tutu made it rather tricky to sneak one out)!
My pink tutu did a little bit of a "fashion flashback" to those glamorous bellbottoms, adding a touch of my signature pink sparkle with some added frills. A little vintage pink tutu on those fabulous 70's bellbottoms - oh darling, the look was simply phenomenal!
Leaving the Stonewall Inn that night, I felt invigorated, excited by the spirit of the times and filled with a love for this exciting time period. Oh, my darlings, if only my little time travel adventures could inspire everyone to step out, strut their stuff, and embrace their individuality with a little pink tutu flair! It's the true heart of the drag community, the magic of sharing joy, individuality, and a bit of a disco flair. I wouldnโt mind some pink tutu clad fun and dance-filled disco-theques right here in Derbyshire! (Anyone with a spare vintage record player and an actual disco ball, please let me know!).
That night in 1971, darling, reinforced what I always preach - "Embrace your true colours! Embrace your glitter! Embrace your PINK!"
Now, remember, darlings, you can read this month's post, and the rest of my blog on www.pink-tutu.com. It's my very own space for all things pink, glitter, and all-things drag!
