Pink Tutu Time Travels: #DragQueenHistory - 10th October, 1980!

Hello my darlings, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travels, your monthly dose of fabulous drag history! It's your girl Emma here, and as always, I'm absolutely delighted to be waltzing through time with you in my magical pink tutu.

Today we're taking a little trip back to 10th October, 1980. Oh, the wonders we'll see!

Time Travelling Tips

Now, before we take off on this magnificent adventure, a quick reminder of the time travel rules: always wear your pinkest, most dazzling tutu, a splash of glitter is mandatory, and don't forget to leave any personal belongings behind - it's really not good to travel through time with an iPhone in your hand (though let's be honest, I'm probably already carrying one under my dress just in case there's a good Wi-Fi signal in the 1980s!).

Off We Go!

Alright darlings, strap in, because we're taking off! The magic of my tutu whirls us back to the glorious 80s. I can already smell that heady cocktail of hairspray and freedom! Oh, how exciting!

Whatโ€™s the Big Drag News Today?

Here in 1980, drag is taking the world by storm! Oh darling, imagine that - no more tiptoeing around the edges of mainstream. We're out here, fabulous and fearless! Today's hot gossip revolves around the release of **"Drag Syndrome", a groundbreaking film that highlights the realities of life for LGBTQ+ people. A true touchstone for the time! And it was shown at the London Gay Centre, now known as The Gay's The Word, a thriving bookshop in Bloomsbury dedicated to LGBTQ+ literature and activism! It's a powerful testament to how far we've come since those early days of the movement.

We should also chat about the **Coalition for Lesbian and Gay Rights, fighting tooth and nail for equality, showing the true power of drag activism and campaigning. It was just a matter of time before these brave souls led us into a new era of acceptance!

Let's Head to the Shows!

Time to enjoy a bit of 1980s drag entertainment, and for that, we head to The Ritz. Situated in the vibrant Soho neighbourhood of London, it's renowned for its legendary cabaret acts. Imagine, all the sequins, the theatrical performances, the energy - pure joy! There's nothing quite like an authentic London drag night. And just a stone's throw away in Kensington is The Theatre Royal. Another jewel in the crown of 1980s drag! Oh darling, the talent must have been through the roof!

A Trip to a Pink-tastic Boutique!

Of course, no visit to the 1980s is complete without a shopping trip! London's Oxford Street has to be our destination. Let's browse the "Boutique on the Strand", "Gay's the Word" and "Camp & Co." - the meccas of glam, boasting colourful clothing and eye-popping accessories! Oh, I wouldn't mind a little bit of "vintage" from the era, and with a name like mine, a trip to "The Pink Lady" is non-negotiable! This iconic shop offered fabulous fashions, making it the perfect spot for picking up a touch of 80s style. Oh darling, let's be honest - anything from the 80s would look fabulously modern right now!

Time To Celebrate!

As always, our little pink-tutu-powered adventure through time ends with a sprinkle of joy and glitter. We're raising a glass (or two!) to the pioneers of the past, the ones who paved the way for all of us. And of course, let's not forget our personal mission - to see the whole world adorned in pink tutus. A daring, fabulous goal, I know, but darling, anything is possible when you're surrounded by the power of drag!

It's time to return to the present, darlings. Until next month's Pink Tutu Time Travels adventure, be fabulous, be kind, and above all, be bold!
