Pink-Tutu Post No. 783: A March to Remember (And a Little Tutu Talk)

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller. I'm so excited to be whisking you away on another fabulously flamboyant adventure today! It’s March the 3rd, 1985 – oh honey, buckle up, because we’re about to get sooo fabulous.

Now, I know you’re wondering how I’m managing to zip through time, Well, it’s a secret. Think of it as my own personal sparkly, fabulous, time-travelling je ne sais quoi – let’s just say it involves a lot of glitter and this wonderful pink tutu, duh!

Off We Go…to London!

And our destination? Oh honey, it’s none other than the capital of fabulous – London! And guess what? There's a fantastic drag show happening in Shoreditch on this very date! At The Grand Union, a new club very much in the know is featuring the Lady Illusionists, a spectacular duo renowned for their outrageous illusions and witty banter. Imagine, dear readers, glittering costumes, mind-boggling tricks, and enough sass to sink a ship! Can you imagine those two together?! You better believe they’re serving lewk.

And you know me – shopping is always on the agenda. We’re headed to The Fashion Centre – the heart of fashion trends and a true gem for the glitterati – the epicentre of the “New Romantic” style movement that’s rocking London in 1985. Think of everything shimmering and beautiful, and I'm talking layers of lace, leather, silk, and tulle. This is a movement where “fashion” really becomes an art form, and I’m positively itching to soak it all in. And I have a sneaking suspicion that the local drag queens in Shoreditch are already taking *major inspiration.

Oh, speaking of drag inspiration... you guys, the '80s were a goldmine for drag. I mean, everything was loud, fabulous, and bursting with individuality – a real haven for our glorious sisterhood. It was the golden age for everything fabulous - just ask anyone with a penchant for sequins and platform heels!

A Flash of Pink Around the Globe

And the fun doesn’t stop in London, darlings! Let’s swiftly jet set across the pond to San Francisco, the epicentre of queer culture and where you can really see the spirit of drag blossoming – think legendary drag houses like Cockettes and The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. I love a good time at the The Stud, the city's oldest gay bar! It's packed with colourful personalities *and I’m told they’re serving the best bloody marys!

Then we’ll be hopping over to New York – where the drag scene is seriously flourishing. Remember those iconic 80’s queens you adore in your favorite movies? This is where they're honing their craft. Think the famous drag balls in New York's East Village - they're more popular than ever with legends like* Divine, rocking those campy, comedic characters. I can just picture her in her iconic outfits! It's like one grand drag ball. Think glamour, think performance, think sequins – it’s like stepping into a glamorous storybook!

Oh, darling, let's talk about sequins, shall we? It’s simply a matter of personal choice, darlings, but personally, my favourite thing about sequins? Their versatility – from glam to fun, they're perfect for any occasion, no matter what. Just make sure they're shining brightly, darlings! And, *do you know what matches sequins perfectly ?* You guessed it – pink! Oh, darling, you just *can't go wrong with a sprinkle of pink sequins!

Tutu Tidbits: What’s a Tutu?

But honey, of course we have to discuss the main star of the show… tutues! You all know I love my tutus. I even own a few of these fabulously fluffy masterpieces myself - one is my travelling tutu that I take everywhere in my time travelling journeys! They're just so incredibly versatile, perfect for everything from daytime brunches to wild, evening soirées! There's really no need for any further arguments – the tutu truly is the defining piece of every true queen's wardrobe. And trust me, dear reader, I have done the research!

So there you have it, darlings! Another month, another magnificent drag adventure! Let's remember to live life with a touch of pink, a sprinkle of sequins and a generous helping of sass!
