Pink Tutu Time Travels: September 1989 - Post #837

Hello darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind of a trip to September 1989, in my trusty magical pink tutu, of course! This month I thought we'd go all out on the glamour, darling. A trip back to the late '80s seemed the perfect fit. Think Madonna meets Cher in a heady cocktail of pink tulle and glittery platform heels! This was truly a time of change and a celebration of individuality in the drag scene, with fierce performances, daring outfits and fabulous energy.

As I shimmered through the time portal, I was instantly transported to New York, the undisputed drag capital of the world! The legendary Wigstock festival was taking place, a spectacular annual event that has gone down in drag history. This was truly where all the divas came to play. Picture, if you will, an outdoor festival pulsating with music, dazzling performances, and a sheer explosion of flamboyant fashion! Wigstock was all about embracing the bold and the beautiful. There was drag for every taste!

Oh, the outfits! You can bet I went for a fabulous outfit fit for this drag extravaganza - a hot pink tutu, glittering sequin bustier and my trusty feather boa - ready to soak up all the fashion inspiration!

Wigstock wasn't just about stunning looks, darling. This festival celebrated the spirit of inclusivity, diversity and the true heart of drag: its unbridled joy. Everyone was welcome, from flamboyant queens to the shy and shyly fierce - everyone rocking their own unique brand of fabulousness!

And the energy? Absolutely electric, dearie! I was swept up in the rush of music, the buzz of chatter and the cheers of the audience, and let me tell you, I couldn't get enough! It truly reminded me of why we do this - to entertain, inspire, and celebrate our own personal style and unique identities!

My pink tutu took me from the streets of New York City to the vibrant gay scene of London! This period was a renaissance for the drag scene in London, darling! I was delighted to discover fabulous nightclubs like 'Heaven', bursting with electrifying performances, DJs spinning all the right tunes, and an atmosphere crackling with energy! It felt like the entire city was abuzz with excitement, a perfect blend of vibrant personalities and playful humour. London drag in 1989, oh, it was truly fabulous, honey!

Oh darling, my memories are swirling with the colour pink! There were also so many amazing artists flourishing back then. Legendary drag queen, Divine was still bringing her trademark blend of campy humour and fierce glamour. She was an icon and still holds a very special place in my heart for inspiring countless drag queens through the years. She even starred in some fabulous films that were incredibly popular back then!

The late 80s was truly a defining moment for drag! It was an era of breaking down barriers, celebrating individuality and just embracing the sheer joy of being ourselves. As we move into 2024, it's important to remember those trailblazers, the fierce queens who carved their path for us! Their legacy reminds us that drag has always been about celebrating the unique, defying expectations and, above all, spreading joy, positivity and fabulousness!

And, speaking of joy and positivity... My goal, my dear readers, remains the same - to get everyone in the world wearing a pink tutu! It's the perfect way to embrace our inner fabulousness, embrace individuality and share our passion for drag and dance! Let's keep that pink tulle flying, darling! Until next time!
