Drag Gems Around The World on September 9th, 1993

You know I always like to know what the hot ticket was back in the day, so today’s journey to the world of drag starts off in the heart of London’s West End - the legendary and iconic The Royal Vauxhall Tavern. This little beauty has been serving up phenomenal drag for decades. It’s got more history than my great-great-aunt's lace collection! Now, you just know that the performances here on September 9th, 1993 were absolutely jaw-dropping, and there's not a chance in the world that I would have missed them.

For my trip this month, darling, we've had to hop all over the world to see how our queens were living life to the fullest. As a time-traveler, I know just the places you should be hitting to get a true glimpse into how the drag community was making its mark.

New York, New York!

There are just certain things about New York that are endlessly captivating - especially if you’re a drag queen looking to have some fun! On this day in 1993, The Ritz, one of New York City's iconic clubs and a landmark for drag entertainment, was hosting one of those famous all-night bashes that legendary drag queens never seem to tire of.

This was a legendary night for all things glamorous and theatrical, with local drag icons throwing down those high-energy routines, serving attitude, and sending looks all night long! I can almost hear the roar of the crowd and see the glitz and glam of the lights flashing back at us from the stage, as these fearless queens set the stage for a truly legendary show. It’s truly a sight that should be etched into history.

Imagine: I’m in the heart of the Big Apple, rocking this hot pink tutu and my brightest smile. These were just a few of the drag shows making their mark on the scene, giving us some iconic memories! Just thinking about these events gives me that fierce energy!

San Francisco: The Golden State of Drag!

It's always a trip to see drag history take a twist and turn to somewhere completely unexpected. As our next stop, we’re venturing to the West Coast, to the birthplace of so many great and groundbreaking movements, and landing on the drag scene of San Francisco!

A true paradise for drag, San Francisco's underground was where drag was evolving and creating a whole new atmosphere for artistic expressions. Imagine those performances, the laughter and music echoing through the cobblestone streets of the city - pure, untamed fun and theatrics at their finest. I've read that a place called The Saloon, a drag bar which went on to become iconic, was serving up some delicious performances!

If only my magic tutu could transport me back to those glory days to catch a glimpse of this unforgettable drag performance.

## Finding Drag and a Little Bit of Shopping…

We all love a bit of retail therapy, darling, and even the best of us can never resist an evening spent digging for that perfect outfit! I had to hit the streets of these fabulous cities to look for that must-have accessory, and maybe even an entirely new set of outfits. The more fabulous the find, the better! Imagine a pink fluffy feather boa or some glittery headbands. And can you imagine my thrill discovering a vintage wig in a vintage clothing store tucked away somewhere in New York City, or perhaps a bright neon sequined bag I’d fall head over heels for while hopping around San Francisco?

These weren't just purchases, darlings. They were investments, pieces that will tell a story that echoes all those amazing drag shows!

## Drag, History, and a Celebration!

My dear darlings, if you take one thing away from today's blog, let it be this: We live in a world bursting with history, a beautiful mosaic made up of all of our stories and how they’ve intertwined and formed a truly amazing history! It's a glorious world filled with colorful threads, just waiting to be woven together with a touch of glitz and a whole lot of fabulous.

It’s more than just a timeline for me - it’s about cherishing the way we’ve all worked together to craft such a powerful history that echoes in each of us! And darlings, I love all you amazing people for your tireless work and commitment to a culture that brings us joy, freedom, and incredible memories.
