Post 887: 11th November 1993 - A Tutus-ful Trip To New York!

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink-tutu wearing, time-travelling, drag queen blogger! It’s a fab Friday and, as you all know, that means it’s time for another fabulous installment of “The Pink Tutu’s Time Travelling Chronicles!” 💅

This month, my pink tutu (oh, I’ve called her Petunia) has whisked me off to the fabulous city of New York! Now, darling, you know I love me a good show, a fabulous outfit, and a bit of glitz and glamour, and 11th November 1993 was simply dripping with all three!

Let me paint you a picture: the Big Apple was abuzz with energy! I’m talking the energy of a thousand drag queens all ready to werk that stage. Imagine my absolute joy to find out there were TWO fantastic shows taking place on this particular day.

The Glamour of 'Wigstock'

The first show was ‘Wigstock’ - now, for anyone who doesn’t know, Wigstock is basically the drag queen Super Bowl! It's an outdoor music and performance festival in New York City, showcasing drag queens and other performers of all styles. Can you imagine the fabulous costumes? The fierce faces? The music that could practically shake your sequins off? It was absolutely glorious, darling!

Sadly, my pink tutu was not big enough for a trip on the New York Subway (just as well really, as my fellow time-travelling friends tell me that’s a bit of a nightmare! ). However, that wasn't stopping me from getting a taste of this iconic festival! My research, you see, informed me that one of the acts on that glorious Saturday night was the divine RuPaul. You might have heard of her? 😜 The darling was at her sassy, stylish best, bringing a whole new definition of drag to the festival. Talk about giving us all something to strive for!

Another Fabulous New York Drag Experience

Later that night, I made my way to another legendary venue in the heart of Manhattan – the Pyramid Club. Imagine, darlings, an exclusive club located in a stunning, modern, pyramidal building! Talk about architectural drama, perfect for a good drag show, right?

The highlight of the night for me was, believe it or not, a man called Divine! I’d heard stories of this larger-than-life performer – known for his larger-than-life personality and costumes, his outlandish sense of style, and his brilliant comedic talents. My darling, the stories couldn't possibly do him justice. This man was sheer genius. Imagine someone who was completely outrageous and ridiculous – yet totally fabulous at the same time? It's like an art piece come to life, ready to perform! I was utterly enchanted!

Time for A Fashion Interlude

The entire experience left me breathless and buzzing with creative energy. So, you can just imagine what happened next: I hit the New York City streets, ready for a shopping spree. Now, anyone who knows me knows I absolutely love my frocks – especially those that are glamorous, statement pieces! New York's vibrant scene was, naturally, full of shops that had all the latest and greatest fashion trends.

Let’s be real, though, darling: I’m always searching for the perfect combination of glitz and elegance. After all, what’s a pink tutu-wearing time-travelling drag queen without some serious glam? Well, this trip wasn’t going to disappoint! I was just brimming with excitement at the sheer range of dresses, shoes, and accessories. I mean, the designs I saw – pure artistic genius, simply dripping in sophistication and creativity! I even found myself falling in love with a few hats I couldn’t live without! Oh, darlings, if you haven’t already figured out what a sucker I am for hats, now you know. Just try to get them off me!

New York’s Glamour Stays with Me

Needless to say, I spent the next few days, even the next few weeks, utterly obsessed with everything I had seen and experienced.

Now, darlings, I love a good story – but remember, I’m a time-travelling, drag-performing, fashion-loving, pink-tutu enthusiast! Of course, there’s always going to be a twist: I have to return to the world of now and catch my next flight. So, my friends, this is your time to ask me about my drag performances: how much fun was that New York trip, what is happening on the London drag scene? Let’s keep this conversation alive, let's share the beauty and artistry of drag with the world.

Until next month, keep those tutus fabulous and don’t be afraid to let your pink flag fly! We all have the potential for magic!

Love,

Emma 💋
