Pink-Tutu.com: Blog Post #924: A Pink Christmas in 1996!

Hello darlings! 💅💋 It’s your fabulous, time-traveling tutu queen Emma here, and oh my goodness, do I have a story for you!

This month, I've hopped back to December 1996, and let me tell you, it’s a world of sparkly sequins, feather boas, and some serious high-kicks! Honestly, my darlings, if this isn’t peak drag history, I don’t know what is.

It’s a cold winter’s day, with frost twinkling on my pink tulle, and the aroma of mulled cider and mince pies swirling around my head. Christmas lights are beginning to shimmer on buildings and shop windows, and the air is buzzing with the excitement of the holidays! Oh, but we're not talking about just any kind of Christmas. No, darlings! This is a drag queen Christmas, and we’re about to dive headfirst into the glittering, chaotic, joyous scene.

First off, let’s head to New York, shall we? A little birdie told me that in the most fabulous corner of the city, the iconic Stonewall Inn is hosting their annual Holiday Drag Extravaganza! Honestly, just the thought of it is making me feel all the excitement. Picture it: glittering costumes, fierce makeup, incredible singing, and enough camp to fill Santa's sack! They’ve even got a very special appearance from legendary drag queen, Divine. My jaw just dropped! Divine! Oh darling, this is giving us history, and we’re all about soaking up the drama and fabulousness.

And speaking of drag history, darlings, it’s time to travel across the pond. My darling London is buzzing with its own special brand of Christmas magic, and there are performances happening all over the place! From The Royal Vauxhall Tavern hosting its annual Christmas extravaganza, complete with festive cheer and an overflowing glass of cheer (for those of us over 18, naturally), to the underground scene exploding with festive drag events, it’s a Christmas season to remember! I swear, they’re having drag shows practically everywhere, and that is absolutely everything to me. The drag scene is alive and thriving in London!

As you all know, this is the time of year where everyone’s giving a little bit extra. So it is no surprise to me that some of the top drag queens are out in full force, offering show-stopping performances. From the flamboyant lip sync battles at iconic clubs like Heaven and G-A-Y, to intimate cabaret performances at underground spaces, the energy in the air is electric. They are literally turning the city pink, darling! (It really does go to show that everything is bigger in December, am I right?)

Oh, and let’s not forget about the shopping, darling! It’s officially holiday season, which means it's time for a little retail therapy. My advice? Shop ‘til you drop. The high street is flooded with glitter and sparkles! It’s all very festive and it makes you want to dress up, darling. From glittering Christmas jumpers and fabulous sequin dresses to stunning beauty products for all our fabulous festive glam needs, there’s a reason the spirit of the holidays is so infectious this time of year!

Don’t worry, darling, I'll be sure to keep you updated with everything going on in the world of drag from December 1996. But for now, I need to start prepping my tutu. The holiday spirit is in the air and I simply must go enjoy a night of glamorous Christmas revelry, darling!

And remember, just because we are a couple of decades away, it's still Christmas, and so wear those Christmas sweaters, darlings! Oh, and make sure that tutu is ready, my dears, we’re in the most festive time of the year, and that's something to celebrate. Until next time, darling!

Lots of love, Emma
