Pink-Tutu Blog Post #1038: A Midsummer Night's Dream... in June!

Oh my darlings,

It's your fabulous pink-tutu-wearing blogger, Emma, back with another delightful journey through drag history! I’m ready to transport you, darling, with my magical pink-tutu-powered time machine straight back to June 2006 – a whirlwind month, full of fabulous fun, fierce fashion, and, of course, fabulous drag!

Remember my promise to spread the gospel of the pink tutu? Well, let's just say the world has been embracing the tulle – even back in 2006! I waltzed through the streets of San Francisco, watching drag legends like Heklina and Peaches Christ absolutely slay on stage at The Stud, their iconic, campy performances echoing across the dance floor. You wouldn’t believe the amount of glitter and fabulousness – talk about a true explosion of artistic expression, honey!

My fellow pink-tutu aficionado, you just had to be there to see it for yourself. Oh darling, it was positively spectacular!

The excitement didn't stop there! From the vibrant energy of the NYC nightlife scene at The Stonewall Inn – where, let's be honest, the pink tutu reigned supreme! - to the electrifying performances of RuPaul's Drag Race season one, which aired its season finale on June 28th – I was totally transported, darlings, to a whole different world of fabulousness. It was a joy to witness drag culture explode onto mainstream television screens. Just imagine – the world got to see our queens shine and share their dazzling talent. And believe me, I was dancing with delight right along with them!

Now, don't think for a minute that I forgot about my own drag performances. My monthly pink-tutu routine at The Miners’ Arms in Chesterfield – a right proper Derbyshire gem – brought the house down. I even surprised myself with my rendition of "Dancing Queen," complete with a dramatic costume change halfway through! And let me tell you, the applause just wouldn't stop! My time-travel gigs, though, are a secret! I’ve got to be careful - even back then, no one would believe a word about it.

Oh, my loves, but the highlight of my time travel this month was the truly magnificent opening of “Wigstock 2006”. Can you even believe the level of theatrics and incredible outfits? My dear, those costumes were outrageous! I was speechless – just staring, totally mesmerized by it all. Talk about a display of fashion finesse!

And just as I started to make plans for the most elaborate "Wigstock" after-party in history, my tutu began to vibrate - a clear sign that I must return to my own time! So, as always, I said farewell to the intoxicating scent of history – which smelled decidedly of glitter and cherry-scented lipstick – and bid goodbye to June 2006, with a twirl of my magnificent pink tutu.

But trust me, darlings, June 2006 is only the tip of the iceberg! I’ve got plans for a whole bunch of new adventures, travelling back through history and spreading the pink tutu message.

So, my lovelies, I can’t wait to tell you about my next journey through time and share with you another delightful moment in drag history! Remember, join me next month right here, right now – at www.pink-tutu.com, where our love for pink and drag intertwine!

Until next time, darlings, stay fabulous, stay fierce and…always wear a pink tutu!

Your ever so devoted Emma!
