Hiya lovelies! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things fabulous and a little bit sparkly. This month, darling, I'm taking us back in time! As you all know, my magical pink tutu takes me on the wildest adventures across the globe.
This month's journey whisks us back to February 2007, a time when everyone was still obsessed with those early days of MySpace (remember those top eight lists?!) and Paris Hilton was basically the queen of the world. Let me tell you, even the world of drag was buzzing with exciting new developments in this fabulously fashionable time period!
Before we dive into that though, darlings, a little something for you… ahem…
Get Ready For The Tutu Life!
Look, let's be real, my life is basically an elaborate drag queen version of The Time Traveler's Wife. My fabulous pink tutu, my secret weapon for navigating the universe, lets me see drag history firsthand!
From ancient Egypt's "divine men" to the glamorous high heels of today, I get to see how drag has always existed, and, honey, it's always been incredible! And while I am devoted to my classic pink tutu, let's be real: it's all about finding your own signature look. It's about feeling confident, slaying the stage, and spreading joy with every pirouette and sassy sashay.
This is my story. My story of being a Derbyshire girl living my wildest dreams and spreading the love of pink tutus all around the world!
Now, onto the juicy gossip...
Drag On The Global Scene in 2007
Remember those head-turning lip-sync battles from the "RuPaul's Drag Race" audition videos? Well, February 2007 saw the beginning of an amazing journey! RuPaul's Drag Race, season one, premiered on Logo TV and set the world on fire, making drag more mainstream than ever!
I tell ya, it was electric! We're talking fierce runway walks, iconic lip-syncs, and a fierce cast of queens who changed the landscape of drag! Imagine watching BeBe Zahara Benet strut the stage and snatch the crown, or hearing Ongina unleash a hilarious performance in "I Will Survive," all on your television. Pure magic!
Even outside America, the world was awash with fantastic drag performers. This was a big month for drag in New York City. The legendary "Wigstock," a cornerstone event, was celebrating its 10th anniversary! You could imagine it, darlings, hundreds of fierce queens, fabulous performances, and all the glitter your heart could desire. Talk about a dazzling birthday party!
The British drag scene was also booming! I found myself in a vibrant London nightclub. The atmosphere was electric as drag artists were dazzling the audience with everything from powerful spoken word performances to outrageous, campy drag acts! You betcha, these fabulous divas were putting on a show!
Shopping and Style, Darling!
Naturally, a time travel escapade isn't complete without a little bit of retail therapy!
This trip to 2007 just had to involve vintage shopping, because honestly, you can always find the most stunning pieces! There was nothing quite like rummaging through racks and racks of sequin gowns, feathers, and oversized hats. Think 70's glam mixed with 90's club kids and a dash of Victorian romance. You could easily find yourself the perfect feathered boa to pair with a sparkling 1920s-style dress, darling. Now, who could resist?
You must keep an eye out for these pieces if you happen to find yourselves on a time travel trip:
