Pink-Tutu.com - Post #1049: A Pink Tutu Time-Travel to 2007.05.05!

Hello my darlings, welcome back to another enchanting journey through time! Today, we're twirling back to a date that’s brimming with deliciousness and delights – May 5th, 2007! And what a magical time it is. Can you believe it, hun? The year 2007! It’s like another lifetime ago! Back then, mobile phones had buttons and YouTube was only 3 years old! Oh, the simple life! But enough with the reminiscing, darling. We’re here for a fabulous time trip, so let's strap on those feather boas and grab a hold of this pink-tutu-licious trip!

Now, 2007 was a primetime period for drag. And on this particular 5th of May, my dears, the scene was ablaze with the brightest stars! Just to whet your appetites, honey, I'm talking about Miss Fame, Willam, Raja - the queens were positively on fire!

For a time-travel adventure as flamboyant as myself, the day would be best started at the Jackie's Drag Revue in Orlando, Florida. Think bright lights, booming music, and enough rhinestones to blind you, darling! I just can’t resist a drag revue - especially a legendary one like this! The air was buzzing with excitement, as Miss Fame brought the house down with her fiercely glam fashion, oozing those I'm-not-here-to-play vibes. And speaking of not playing, let's just say the fabulous Willam brought their unique brand of humour to the stage, creating a storm of laughter! Just thinking about it, darling, I’m feeling all the energy – and you know what they say - where there’s laughter, there's love.

If the day was feeling a bit too warm, I would head to the cool underground scene of San Francisco! You'll never believe it, my dears, this was back when The Oasis was THE place to be! Imagine: Raja working her magic on the stage! You’d be utterly transported to a galaxy far, far away - filled with stunning visuals and unimaginable fashion statements.

So, I know you're thinking, how is a girl from a quiet little town in Derbyshire like myself afforded a worldwide drag journey like this? Well, my darlings, let’s just say my pink-tutu-powered time travelling abilities are funded by a little something called ‘performance art’. Let’s just say those shows I put on with the Derbyshire Dolls keep this glamorous little adventurer in a pink tutu … well… on the road to more exciting adventures!

Oh, before I get caught up in reminiscing further, I need to talk to you about the fashion. May 2007 saw the emergence of Drag Race Season 1, darling. And the fashion, darling, the fashion! This was the age of sleek silhouettes and glamorous drama. Think of a delicious blend of high-fashion, haute couture, and just a touch of RuPaul-ness all thrown together, like a rainbow explosion of couture. Think bodycon gowns and intricate hairstyles. RuPaul’s Drag Race was the platform for fierce fashion! Oh, I was certainly channeling the big hair trends! Remember Rebecca Glasscock, darling? That unforgettable rainbow bouffant was iconic !

I know, darling, this might sound a little cheesy, but as you all know I’m a total drag history buff – and my love of all things drag-ulous led me on a fabulous, pink tutu clad, journey back in time, all in the name of drag-lore and drag-love!

Here are some more fascinating finds about this historical date:

  • On this day in 2007, RuPaul’s Drag Race aired its premiere episode on the Logo network, marking a major turning point in mainstream recognition for the drag scene.

  • RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 1 also gave rise to one of my all-time favourite Drag Race contestants – Akashia, who won me over with her fabulous take on drag. RuPaul’s Drag Race, honey, that’s a show!

  • On May 5th, 2007, Willam started performing at The Oasis.

So darling, my next time travel post will be in June. Can you even believe it's already June?! Time truly flies! Stay glamorous my dears and don’t forget, a little bit of sparkle is always a good idea.

Love always, Emma. x
