Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident time-travelling pink tutu aficionado, reporting back from my latest adventures! February 2009 - oh honey, this month was shocking, campy and fiercely fashionable. Get ready for a whirlwind tour through time, darling, with your girl, and some truly iconic drag history.
Post number 1070 on www.pink-tutu.com - serving looks and sass since the beginning of time! ✨💖
You might be asking, how did I get here, babes? Well, remember how I told you last month about my dazzling debut at the Miss Continental pageant? Turns out, my breathtaking performance got me noticed by a rather fabulous fairy godmother (I'm still working on getting her to sponsor a trip to Paris! sigh), and she gave me this amazing pink tutu that can actually transport you through time! Gasp Can you believe it?!
I had to take her up on this fabulous opportunity to research our wonderful world of drag, of course! Imagine, all those legendary queens, from the early days to modern day legends, right at my fingertips.
So let's get this fabulous party started, shall we?
February 2009, darling! Drag is absolutely popping. ✨
Across the pond, in New York, I saw legends at the legendary Stonewall Inn - the *legendary Mother Rupaul herself was strutting her stuff on the runway in her legendary “Drag Race” and it was shockingly good! And let me tell you, this whole "drag queen reality TV show" business - it was already creating some huge waves, darling, setting the scene for years of drag excellence! Major history in the making right here!
Back in London, things were absolutely fizzing with talent. A whole host of iconic shows were happening! In the truly iconic Camden, "G-A-Y" hosted their infamous "Disco Divas" night. These legendary parties had everyone dancing till dawn, and honestly? The whole atmosphere, the glamour, the fashion – it was enough to make any self-respecting pink tutu aficionado lose their mind!
Let me tell you, the iconic Queen of the South - The Lady Chablis herself - was doing some fabulous performances at the truly incredible Royal Vauxhall Tavern - London’s iconic gay theatre. Major Drag History.
But the show that truly had me gagging was in Manchester - The "Gay Village" was booming, with queens strutting their stuff everywhere you looked. I got myself front row at The "Rainbow City" to witness "The Lady's Lounge" cabaret night and it was truly breathtaking! Think high drama, think camp comedy, think unforgettable music, think fashion for days! And don’t even get me started on the talent of *the *iconic* "Manchester’s Drag Princess"- the amazing Lisa Maxwell!
And now for a fashion emergency that simply had to be addressed: Oh darling! This whole pink tutu time travel business is hard work. Think glamourous travel, yes, but also, time management. Luckily, London was ready with its gorgeous vintage boutiques to supply the divine pink tutu wardrobe that my demanding travels required. So much to choose from, and I had a blast trawling the famous Portobello Road for the perfect feather boas. They’ve always got stunning bits and pieces for an affordable price - absolute bargain diva heaven!
Oh darling, the energy was electric, the talent was incredible, and I had to stay up late with those gorgeous ladies after every show for a legendary teatime. Talking history, dreams and the future, we were just a group of girlfriends making magic happen in that magical pink tutu of mine! It's just too fabulous. Sigh
So here we are - a new month, *a new chapter in drag history, a fabulous time for your girl Emma, to serve all the fabulous looks in that perfect pink tutu!
Don’t forget to follow my blog for all the juicy updates, dear readers.
See you next month!
XOXO
