Pink-Tutu.com - Post #1079: The Tutus of 2009 - A Journey Back in Time!

Oh, darlings! How's my favourite little pink-tutu-loving divas? Emma here, ready to whisk you away on another dazzling journey through time! Today we're twirling back to November 2009, and trust me, dearies, this year was chock-a-block with fierce fabulousness.

But before I get all misty-eyed about those glorious drag moments, let's grab a cuppa and some pinky-perfect cupcakes, shall we? After all, you can't time-travel on an empty stomach, and I'm not the type to leave my darling divas hangin'!

As you all know, my magic pink tutu is the key to my temporal adventures. You could say it's my own personal TARDIS, only with a lot more glitter and a slightly less masculine aesthetic. We've been bouncing around the years for months now, darlings, spreading the gospel of the pink tutu and making sure everyone remembers: Drag is everything!

So, back to November 2009, a year filled with vibrant, fabulous performances, trends that sent shockwaves through the drag community, and so much fierce inspiration!

The very air crackled with the energy of the "Queen of the Night" show in Derbyshire. Oh, honey, it was pure glitz and glamour. Imagine, all my favourite Derbyshire queens performing live! Let's just say my pink tutu and I did a bit of impromptu strutting on the dancefloor, proving once again, that you never have to be invited to have a good time.

Drag wasn't just confined to stages back then, either!

You know how I love a good fashion fix? The fashion world was a riot of colours and textures, from avant-garde to glamorous, it was a glorious collision of creativity and fierce, fearless looks! I mean, even back in the nineties, the fashion editors knew about the pink tutu! You could catch me sashaying about in London, New York, Paris...everywhere, really, picking up those fabulous pink tutus from vintage boutiques, and even picking out some for my fellow drag divas!

And let's not forget about the beauty queens. These queens were serving fierce looks with incredible makeup artistry. Those iconic lip shapes, the perfectly blended contouring...it was pure artistry! Drag is a whole world, darling, a canvas for beauty, creativity, and fun, and these divas were truly living their truth through their fabulous looks.

Now, darling, let's get into some specifics! Remember RuPaul's Drag Race? Oh, this reality show, it took the drag world by storm! You know those girls who had fierce lip sync battles and brought iconic quotes into our lexicon? 2009 was a key year for that iconic show - it solidified its place in the pop culture pantheon, proving that drag is something that can be appreciated, enjoyed, and worshipped by all.

Here are a few moments that stand out to me:

  • Divine's birthday: In November 2009, the drag world remembered the legendary Divine, who'd sadly passed away in 1988. It was a powerful reminder of how those before us paved the way for the current generation, allowing queens like myself to spread joy and glitter throughout the world.

  • The "Sissy that Walk" craze: Everyone was sashaying down the street, honey. A dance move this iconic is something that everyone should be doing, it’s fun, fierce, and perfect for a quick strut-and-sass moment! I just knew back then it would be a hit and I’d been working on my version!

  • Drag queen fashion: Those dazzling rhinestones, sequins, and dramatic, show-stopping outfits! From the theatrical, the edgy to the downright flamboyant, these drag queens were serving up runway-worthy looks, leaving me speechless and a little bit starstruck!

November 2009, darling, was truly a pivotal time for drag! Not only were there fantastic shows popping up, but the whole world was starting to really embrace the magic that is drag! You can't deny, 2009 was the year of fierce performances and some of the most beautiful costumes ever made! Drag was everywhere, it was a cultural moment. It wasn't just the shows anymore!

*But darling, it doesn’t stop there! I know you are all thinking: *

  • How did we celebrate?
  • Where are the party photos?
  • Was everyone in a pink tutu?

And you can bet your bottom dollar I have all that for you! From exclusive pics of my glamorous pink tutu escapades in London’s fabulous nightclubs to behind the scenes with a local drag performance troupe – I'll show you exactly how November 2009 shook its ttts!

Keep an eye out on my pink-tutu.com blog in the coming weeks, dearies!

In the meantime, make sure you follow my every adventure through the decades on social media. Remember, we can change the world one sparkly pink tutu at a time, darlings!

XOXO,

Emma.
