You're probably wondering how a lass from Derbyshire can flit about in time. Well, darlings, it's all thanks to my magical pink tutu. Yes, my darling, you read that right! It’s not just any tutu, it’s a portal to all things fabulous! And you know what? Every single performance I put on, every single penny I earn, goes right back into this very tutu, to fuel my adventures! It’s all for the love of drag, my darlings!

So buckle up, hold onto your feather boas, and let's twirl our way through the fabulousness that was 2010!

2010: The Year of the Drag Explosion

Now, let’s be honest, the drag world has always been pretty spectacular, but 2010? That was an absolute drag-tastic explosion! The internet was exploding with fabulousness, from RuPaul's Drag Race taking the world by storm, to YouTube exploding with DIY drag tutorials, giving everyone the chance to step into the spotlight and discover the amazing world of drag!

A World on Stage

You see, the joy of drag is in its diversity, and 2010 reflected this in its many different faces. You had the theatre queens slaying in the West End, like the one and only, Miss Polly Pocket in “Priscilla Queen of the Desert,” and the fabulousness of "La Cage aux Folles" still rocking the stages worldwide, showing the power and importance of celebrating individuality.

But the big news, my darlings? It was RuPaul's Drag Race! The show, in its third season, was putting the “drag” back into "dramatically" as the queens showcased all sorts of looks, giving us looks we hadn’t seen before, from fishy and glamorous to edgy and unique, it was truly a show for the ages! And don't get me started on the Snatch Game, darling! We all remember Shangela, the ultimate snatch game champion.

It's all these dazzling moments that have inspired me to keep travelling through time, because every time I step into this tutu, I find myself immersed in this world, a world of glittery beauty and boundless creativity!

From Drag Shows To The Street

The 2010 drag scene wasn’t just limited to theatre stages though. Drag was taking to the streets!

We had Miss Fame on “America’s Next Top Model," paving the way for more mainstream recognition, and let’s not forget “Wigstock” still going strong, with its unique blend of performance art and community and it's fabulous parade down the streets of New York and in all sorts of events across the country! I swear, the energy and creativity in 2010 felt so contagious. Everyone was just eager to share this unique kind of beauty!

Oh, and can I mention my girl Miley Cyrus and her "Can't Be Tamed" era. A whole bunch of amazing drag artists came out in full force inspired by her look. And they gave us everything! There were tributes, there were parodies, but the thing is, we all agreed Miley’s new vibe fit perfectly with the energy in 2010 - it just showed us that there are so many ways to be fabulous!

Shopping & Fashion in 2010

The world of fashion in 2010, darling? It was a delightful mix of glamorous couture and edgy street styles! And let's face it, when we talk fashion, it goes hand in hand with drag. Drag queens are some of the biggest fashion innovators, after all!

Remember Alexander McQueen’s last collection for Givenchy? The dramatic designs, the vibrant colors. That perfectly embodied the bold spirit of drag queens everywhere!

The runway wasn’t the only place to catch the eye either. We saw Lady Gaga taking the world by storm with her unique and outrageous style. Think that fishnet and leather look? It had the street going absolutely wild, and inspired countless queens on the stage! Gaga was just unapologetically herself and that really captured the heart and soul of the drag spirit!

And let's not forget the amazing street style back then! The bloggers, the trendsetters, and everyone in between. They were all rocking a range of looks that perfectly complemented the drag scene, with bold colors, funky patterns, and daring accessories!

A Pink Tutu Time Capsule

For my fellow drag queens, you see, the history of drag is never just about trends. It’s about this powerful urge to express yourself no matter what. That spirit of breaking boundaries, challenging the norm. And in 2010, it was really alive and well!

So, if you ever find yourself needing a little drag inspiration, step into a vintage clothing store and find those iconic 2010 trends. Try some edgy glam. Get that street style swagger. You never know, you might just discover the next fabulous chapter of your own drag story.

Oh, and don't forget to don a fabulous pink tutu, my darlings! It’s a symbol of embracing everything fabulous in life! I'm always ready to share a tip or two! You can catch me every month, here on Pink-Tutu.com! See you next month for another time-travelling adventure, darling!

Until then, stay fabulous!

XOXO, Emma
