Pink Tutu Travels: July 2011 - A Splash of Glamour in the Drag World!

Hello, my darling dears! Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, and welcome back to another month of whimsical time-travelling adventures. This time, we're skipping back to July 2011, a glorious month in the history of drag! It was a time when the world of drag was positively bubbling with excitement, brimming with vibrant talent and daring performances. Now, grab your pink lemonade and settle in for a truly fabulous journey through time!

As you know, I love nothing more than dazzling in my pink tutu, and this month's travel is particularly enchanting! We're going to the heart of New York City, where the legendary RuPaul's Drag Race was on the verge of changing everything. Oh honey, just wait until you hear what I saw...

Season 3: The Beginning of an Era

Season 3 of RuPaul's Drag Race was just hitting our screens, introducing us to some iconic queens like Raja (that look!), Manila Luzon (so stylish), and Alexis Mateo (oh those vocals!). They were tearing up the runway with fashion-forward looks and jaw-dropping performances, and you could just feel the energy buzzing in the air! I mean, who can forget Raja’s famous “Lady Gaga" look? It was simply groundbreaking!

The Queen's of The Big Apple

While we were all glued to our screens, the world of New York drag was flourishing. Legendary drag performer Miss Fame was gracing the stage at The Stonewall Inn, and Alaska Thunderfuck was bringing her unique brand of comedy to The Ritz – it was truly an explosion of drag artistry! Imagine me in the audience, sporting my signature pink tutu and a dazzling smile, basking in the incredible energy.

And don’t even get me started on the makeup! This was the era of “beat face,” where makeup was transformed into an elaborate art form. Drag queens were truly embracing their creativity, and pushing the boundaries of what drag could be. The beauty looks I saw back then – so bold, so glam! Oh, how I wish I could time-travel with a makeup kit!

Fashion Frenzy

Oh, darling! Let’s not forget about the fashion! Remember that amazing Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition that swept through London back in 2011? Imagine being in that fashion haven! All those outrageous designs, the extravagant corsets, the fierce cutouts… It was a complete feast for the eyes. I swear, the pink tutus I spotted were fabulous, every single one! I was in a true drag fashion frenzy, wanting to wear every piece myself.

And, don’t even get me started on the glorious dresses, sequins, and high heels that were taking the drag scene by storm. You could practically feel the confidence oozing off the queens as they walked the streets, owning every single inch of the space! It truly inspired me to go back home and bring my own touch of glamour to Derbyshire.

Spreading the Tutu Love

Just like this vibrant era of drag has sparked a fire in me, I hope it has inspired you too! Every day, I feel like we are entering a golden age for drag. The world is waking up to the brilliance of this art form, and I am absolutely delighted to see so many people celebrating diversity and self-expression through drag.

So, how do we keep this beautiful world spinning? You know the answer – with a pink tutu, my dears! Embrace your individuality, find your own sparkle, and don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Whether you’re in New York City, Derbyshire, or somewhere in between, let’s all embrace the wonderful world of drag. And as always, my darlings, wear pink!
