Pink Tutu Travels: 1st January 2012 - A Trip to the Glittering Past!

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels, your monthly dose of fabulousness, sprinkled with a touch of history! I’m your ever-so-lovely host, Emma, and today we’re whizzing back in time to January 1st, 2012, a date brimming with excitement and iconic moments in our beloved drag world. This is blog post number 1105 - did I mention how much I love this number?!

Now, as you all know, my passion lies in drag and its history - particularly that glorious moment when ballet and drag collided! Who can resist a dazzling tutu on a divine drag queen, darling? Honestly! It’s a look that sends shivers down my spine! That’s why this month’s time travel adventure finds me in my own dazzling pink creation, feeling like the most glamorous ballerina ever!

My dear blog readers, allow me to unveil my latest creation, a pink feather-boa-adorned masterpiece with layers and layers of the most magnificent tulle. This number will make even the most stoic drag queen shriek with delight! It's absolutely to die for! I practically twirled myself right into the time machine with it, and believe me, the trip was well worth the risk of accidentally getting stuck in the past - even with all the delicious fashion we'd encounter!

I have to say, 2012 was a banner year for drag! It was a time of pure artistic freedom. I know, I know, every era boasts fabulous drag moments, but you’ve got to admit, drag is really getting its time to shine these days, wouldn't you say? And what was even more dazzling than that, darlings, is that in the year 2012, I felt this massive wave of drag love was reaching every corner of the globe. It truly felt like a universal explosion of fabulousness! I felt like everyone was waking up to the transformative power of drag and discovering how it can bring communities together and empower everyone who dared to walk in those glorious heels!

Remember that epic RuPaul’s Drag Race season four, darlings? I had to whip out the best, most flamboyant hair and makeup to really embody the magic of the season! It truly set the stage for what drag could achieve - the contestants were all phenomenal, fierce, and each of them pushed the boundaries of what we'd considered drag to that point. Plus, can you believe how glamorous that season's finale was? My darling, you couldn't touch it! And don’t even get me started on the iconic season four winner! That’s when I truly felt the weight of a full-on global drag awakening – we weren’t just in nightclubs and bars anymore, honey, drag had come to the world.

I must admit that when I landed in January 2012, I did feel a twinge of sadness for what hadn’t been! I wanted to tell every single soul about my own adventures, my fabulous fashion discoveries and what was to come. But darling, my heart swelled with pride for everyone in 2012 who was creating this cultural revolution! Drag queens around the world, embracing the joy and excitement that our artistry brings – there’s nothing more magnificent in the world!

In fact, I have to tell you about the fabulous show I caught in 2012 in that little corner of England called Derbyshire. It's such a special place to me, don't you know! Now, in 2012, my love, the drag scene was booming in this part of the country, it was almost overwhelming! Everywhere I went I encountered a drag queen (and a tutu or two!), they truly put the "drag" in drag race - all those beautiful, dazzling queens ready to shake, shimmy and steal the show. But I couldn’t reveal who I was! It was tricky - being there but not being there, if you know what I mean? Still, it was the best sort of bittersweet feeling, like witnessing a miracle while disguised as an ordinary fashionista. And when the spotlight was on them, all I could do was silently cheer with tears in my eyes. These queens were taking risks, embracing who they were, and bringing such incredible beauty into the world – there’s no bigger compliment to be paid.

In London, darling, my travel plans had me bouncing from nightclub to theater! A visit to London wasn’t complete without it. From those smaller intimate spots with fabulous house music to grand theatre shows – London had it all. Honestly, London is my favorite city in the world when it comes to a fabulous drag adventure, don’t you agree?

It truly made me think, darlings – every moment in time has its own charm and magic. But what truly keeps the spark alive in the history of drag? Is it those big shows in glitzy cities or maybe a show in a little country town that brings it all together? Personally, I think it’s the people! Every single soul, embracing who they are, giving their all on stage, and embracing their true beauty. That’s what makes the entire world of drag, darling, simply electrifying!

And I, in my very own pink tutu creation, am so grateful to be part of this incredible story.

But the time to bid you adieu has arrived.

Until next time, keep shimmering, my loves!

Until next month! And remember, wear pink!

And never forget, the power of the pink tutu, darling, is truly limitless.

Love, Emma xx
