Pink-Tutu Presents: Post #1112 - A Drag Queen's Diary: 8th August 2012

Hello darlings! It's your favourite Derbyshire gal, Emma, here, ready to take you on a whirl through time with my magical pink tutu! It's a sweltering summer day here in good old England, so what better way to cool down than by slipping into my trusty tutu and travelling back to the 8th of August 2012! Let’s go, girls!

Oh darling, this day was absolutely popping! There were so many incredible events going on, and I had to be there for them all!

New York, New York!

I kicked off the day with a quick spin to New York, darling! Why, you ask? It was none other than the glorious, shimmering, dazzling, RuPaul's Drag Race Season 4 finale! Now, I know what you’re thinking. It was already all over the telly, right? Well, darlings, there’s nothing quite like seeing it unfold in person.

And what a spectacle it was! This was the season that gave us our dearly beloved, eternally stylish winner, Sharon Needles. And if the live audience wasn’t enough, it was also filmed in front of an entire world, so we know you were all at home on your sofa, screaming with delight! Remember, my dears, those high camp challenges like “Snatch Game,” those fierce runway looks, those dazzling performances! You know I was living!

Let's Take it to the Streets

You know, for this blog I travel back in time all the time to see legendary performers, but this next bit was absolutely unique, and one for the books, and that’s all about how drag is now more mainstream than ever before. It's absolutely bonkers, and I mean bonkers in a gloriously good way. Imagine this, the world’s largest street performance festival, the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, and what is going on?! You’ve guessed it! Drag Queens!

That’s right, darlings! Our sisters, the Queens, took to the Edinburgh streets, giving performances across the festival, all in their full glory and their best bright pink and silver outfits! Imagine the joyous chaos, darling! You know I'm already picturing myself rocking it up there in Edinburgh.

On to the Ballroom Scene!

You know what’s more bonkers than Drag on the streets of Edinburgh? Well, maybe not, but still bonkers! My dears, I went to a ballroom in Paris!

And it wasn't any old ballroom. I’m talking The Vogue Ball! This ballroom scene, darling, it’s fierce.

Imagine: you are in this beautiful, decadent, shimmering room, all glitter and spotlights, and a stage. Queens are walking down the catwalk! I mean they aren't just walking, they are strutting, flossing, spinning, and then there is the music!

It's not pop tunes! The DJ drops a heavy, bass-thumping beat and what is it? Oh darling, they are all voguing!!

Have you seen that amazing, hypnotic dancing style, my dears? It’s all body rolls, sharp poses and those hand gestures! It's everything about powerful, dramatic, and stunning performance. Let's just say this event in Paris is one I won't ever forget!

Don't Forget the Show Must Go On

It was a full-on day of fabulousness, darling, and of course, it ended with a glorious show! I had the privilege of attending a drag show right in my hometown! Yes! The local Derbyshire Queen's were ready to make this little town feel glamorous! Imagine a small theatre packed with eager eyes, all looking for that dazzling glamour and glitter. Then, imagine the feeling when the Queens take the stage! Oh darlings, my hometown was absolutely bursting with sequins and glitter! This night was all about showing our true colours, sharing a passion, and being unapologetically ourselves. The applause from the crowd, it just felt amazing, don't you think, my dears?

The Magic of My Tutu

Well, there you have it, my darlings! That was August 8th, 2012 in a pink, sparkly nutshell! Now I’m going to end this post, with a glass of pink champagne, maybe I'll try some new glittery eye shadow too! Don't forget, you can always find more of me on www.pink-tutu.com! Remember, girls: always put your best foot forward, wear those dazzling pink tutus and don't be afraid to let your true selves shine! Keep it fab, darling!

See you all next month for another fabulous voyage into the glorious, fabulous world of drag. Remember, time travelling can make you very tired, darling. But a good night's sleep and a big cup of pink lemonade, does wonders! And now for some glamour and sparkle. Ciao, darlings!
