Hello lovelies! Your fabulous fashionista, Emma, here, back with another blast from the past – this time, we're taking a trip right back to 2012. It's a bit like that time you went to that fantastic vintage clothing sale and came home with a whole outfit, but for your drag wardrobe, darlings!
This month, my sparkly, pink, and highly time-travelling tutu took me to December 12th, 2012, a date overflowing with exciting happenings in the world of drag. It was the season of good cheer, holiday celebrations, and a time for everyone, including us drag queens, to truly shine.
But before I spill all the glittery, fabulous gossip, a quick word about our time travel funding! It’s still me, darling, out there sashaying across the stage! All my extravagant costumes and magical, shimmering tutu travels are funded through my fantastic performances – your donations, and a whole lot of fabulousness. I might be a queen of time, but I'm always up for a good ol’ fashioned drag show!
A Glitter-ific December Day in 2012So, picture this: the air is crisp, there's a little nip in the air, but inside the drag club, it’s a steamy, sweaty hot mess! The stage lights are beaming, a dazzling spotlight on all those stunning queens.
2012 was the year where a certain phenomenon called RuPaul's Drag Race was hitting its stride. The queens were pushing boundaries, serving fierce looks, and captivating audiences worldwide. It’s not like these queens need more of a reason to shine, darling, but it definitely set the stage (pun absolutely intended) for a wave of drag popularity!
My journey took me to Los Angeles where Drag Race was being filmed. The energy, the sass, and the sheer talent were almost overwhelming. It’s no surprise that Drag Race is a force of nature, taking the world by storm!
Back in Derbyshire, though, a world of glamour was waiting for us. There were exciting performances and drag nights all over the county. Even little old Chesterfield, where I come from, was buzzing with the glamour of drag shows – all those wonderful queens putting on a real show!
Let’s Talk About Fashion… And Pink!
Of course, the outfits were incredible – we're talking sparkling leotards, feather boas, sequined gloves and boots that would rock your world. 2012 saw the rise of fashion-forward drag, which I loved. The emphasis on style, creativity, and showstopping costumes had never been more vibrant!
My mission is clear: get everyone in a pink tutu! 2012 was a great start – everything seemed to be about being bold and unafraid of colour and flair, and darling, my tutu was definitely making waves! I even saw one fabulous queen sporting a tutu-inspired, shimmery mini-dress – totally rocked the stage!
Sharing the Joy - Community and CreativityAs we walked the streets, I saw a vibrant street performance near Nottingham that really stood out. A group of fabulous drag queens, wearing those gorgeous platform boots, were singing and dancing for a cheering crowd. There was a certain energy and unity – it was clear the drag community was vibrant, supportive, and making its mark.
It’s this spirit of inclusivity and acceptance that draws me back to drag, time after time. It's the community that truly shines, a celebration of self-expression, a place where every queen can truly be herself.
And you know, sometimes even the queens needed a break! A drag tea party held by a group of drag queens was absolute perfection – gossiping, catching up, and just being with their chosen family.
And there you have it, lovelies! A sneak peek into a fascinating drag world just a little bit behind us, but definitely worth celebrating. Remember, dear queens, every day is a chance to embrace your fabulousness, to take centre stage in your story, to embrace *who you are and rock your heart out.
Remember, the drag world is vast and beautiful. I encourage you to explore, find your place, and shine! Keep checking back at www.pink-tutu.com for all your time travelling drag adventures!
Lots of Love, Emma xx
