Pink-tutu.com Blog Post #1117: A Time-Travelling Tutu Takes On January 2013!

Darling darlings, it's your gal Emma here, back from another fabulous trip through time in my oh-so-magical pink tutu! January 2013 was an absolute whirlwind, and oh honey, did we have some fabulous drag history to discover!

So buckle up your fabulousness, grab your fanciest teacup, and let's dive into the juicy world of drag through my eyes!

A Derbyshire Gal's Trip Through Time

The calendar said January, but I was ready to embrace February's vibrant energy with my trusty pink tutu and a spirit as sparkly as a freshly-pressed sequined frock! It's amazing how time travel allows me to see the interconnectedness of the drag world across centuries. I found myself bouncing between drag balls in the 1930s, learning the ropes of burlesque in 1950s New York, and even getting a taste of drag in 1990s Tokyo. My darling, you just wouldn't believe the styles!

But, back to January 2013. Oh darling, the drag scene was sizzling! I couldn't resist dipping my toes (and tutu!) into the fabulous energy of RuPaul's Drag Race, a reality show capturing hearts across the globe. Season 5 was in full swing, with Jinkx Monsoon shining bright and bringing us fierce, quirky drag queen royalty! This season truly brought together the comedic genius and fabulous fashion sense of drag - a dazzling combination, don't you think?

A World of Drag Queens

From the glittering stage lights of London's legendary Royal Vauxhall Tavern, to the wild drag scene exploding in Brooklyn and across Europe, drag was an irresistible force. It was a time for celebrating self-expression and celebrating those who dare to be different. This kind of creative spark, honey, it's contagious! I couldn't resist strutting my stuff, channeling my inner Miss Fame with a bold makeup look and a pink tutu, of course. It's like the universe is saying, "Pink is the way to go, Emma!".

The Time Traveling Tutu and Fashion's Fancy

Speaking of fashion, oh honey, you know I adore a good outfit. My time travel wardrobe is bursting with sparkling jewels, glamorous gowns, and, of course, my ever-faithful pink tutu! January 2013 was brimming with flamboyant fashion! From the bold colours and prints in street style to the theatrical ensembles seen on stage, the world of fashion was screaming for a dose of "More is More!" I even stumbled upon a vintage shop in 1960s New York filled with showstopping gowns, and couldn't resist a few additions to my collection.

On Stage & The Street: Where Drag Reigns

Did you know that January 2013 was the start of the "New York Winter Pride Celebration"?! I absolutely had to be there! It was a celebration of diversity, a reminder that the world is a more beautiful place when we celebrate who we are and what makes us unique. The streets buzzed with life, the drag shows were buzzing with energy, and even the local shops had a pink sparkle! It was clear, dear darlings, that drag was gaining recognition not just as an art form, but as a cultural phenomenon that embraced inclusivity and diversity!
