Pink-Tutu.com: Post #1118 - February 2013: A Tutu Trip Through Time!

Darlings! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller Emma here, and oh my goodness, it’s a good day to be alive! This month, our magical pink tutu has whisked us away to February 2013 – the dawn of a new era in drag, if you ask me. But before I delve into the glitter-infused wonders of that particular year, let me tell you about the most fabulous shopping spree a queen could dream of!

This month, I discovered the most divine collection of pink-tutu-inspired creations at a quaint little shop called "Vintage Finds" in, you guessed it, Derbyshire! You know, I’m not sure where I’d be without the abundance of vintage treasures and stunning finds my home county offers!

Anyway, this little shop is full of delights: beautiful lace, vintage feathers, and, oh, the sequins! And of course, the pink tutus! From billowing tulle creations fit for a princess to tiny, sparkly numbers perfect for a sultry shimmy, I absolutely went bonkers. The lady who runs it is the most fabulous creature – a veritable fashion icon, truly – with the best gossip!

So, once my tutu-ful bags were filled with sartorial goodness, my time-traveling tutu whisked me away to the fabulous New York City! I know, right? The heart of the drag scene, full of glittering, fabulous nights that have gone down in history! And guess what, February 2013 was particularly buzzing!

On this date, the inimitable RuPaul’s Drag Race season 5 had just premiered! I mean, it was practically exploding with fabulousness, darlings! Jinkx Monsoon, Alaska Thunderfuck, Roxxxy Andrews, Detox, Coco Montrese... all those names now legendary! What a time to be a drag queen in New York!

As I watched, absolutely mesmerised, a thought struck me! What if we all started a pink tutu challenge, right here, right now? Imagine the streets of London, the avenues of Paris, the alleys of New York, all blooming with pink tulle! A visual feast of fluffy fabulousness. Now wouldn’t that be a vision, darlings?!

But hold your horses! Back to 2013! Not only was RuPaul’s Drag Race heating up the screen, Bianca Del Rio, a future winner, had just launched her very own website – a bold, funny, and iconic online presence!

And there was more, darlings! While I’m still dreaming about that pink tutu I found in Derbyshire, New York’s Stonewall Inn, a landmark in LGBT history, celebrated their 45th anniversary. And while that may sound quite distant now, for many, it's a time they can personally connect with – a reminder of the fight for equality, the unwavering spirit of resistance, the joyous resilience that made the drag world the spectacular thing it is today!

It's a reminder that we’re part of a bigger story, a legacy of sass, talent, and unapologetic self-expression. So, let's carry on the torch of the pioneers who fought for the right to strut, sashay, and make history!

This month, we celebrated, explored, and, of course, SHOPPED! It’s been an absolute joy! Don't forget to share your thoughts, favourite pink tutu finds, or memories of February 2013 – the drag world is a community, darlings, and I want to hear all about it!

See you next month for another adventure in time, darlings! Stay fabulous and never, ever, ever, be afraid to embrace the pink tutu life!

Much love, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
