Hello my darlings, and welcome to another fabulous voyage through time with your girl Emma! It's the 5th of May, 2013, and today's gonna be a right royal blast from the past, wouldn't you say? And honestly, I have to admit, I'm practically vibrating with excitement about it all. As we know, my darlings, May is a fabulous month for any Drag Queen, with so many fabulous festivals and events going on - it's practically a sin to NOT be wearing pink! 😉
I've been looking at the events calendar for the month of May, 2013, and let me tell you, there are some absolutely killer performances happening all over the globe.
First up, we have the legendary Miss Fame! This amazing woman, still fresh on the scene back then, was hosting "The Queens Ball", an incredible showcase of fabulous, and truly avant-garde drag! I just adore the looks of the 2013 Miss Fame! So incredibly theatrical, but somehow effortless too.
Oh! And did I mention she was touring with "Lady Gaga"?! Yes, that's right. Gaga herself. Can you imagine performing with the icon? It truly gives me all the goosebumps just thinking about it! This must have been such an amazing, unforgettable moment. I'm absolutely thrilled for Miss Fame!
Further along in the US, our girl, Jinkx Monsoon, was busy rocking out to her very own album launch! You might be shocked to learn it, but that album is called "The Inevitable" and believe me, this talented beauty really has been an inevitable force on the Drag Scene ever since she rose to fame in RuPaul's Drag Race. She really is a superstar. I'm sure her album launch in May 2013 was an absolutely epic, joyous, hilarious and just brilliant night, wouldn't you say? I wouldn't miss that for the world!
Back on home turf, things were starting to heat up as the queens gathered for what I believe was the very first "Glitterbomb" event! Now, for anyone who doesn't know (because some of you youngsters out there weren't even born yet!) Glitterbomb is the massive and truly brilliant drag celebration that goes down annually, and I’m so incredibly lucky that it’s happening near my home in Derbyshire! I actually have to travel through time to catch this spectacular! You see, my pink time-traveling tutu can’t always get me places at the exact moment I need, it has to do a little bit of back and forth. However, darling, I will never miss Glitterbomb!
And that wasn’t the only drag celebration going on, darling. In New York City, it was the return of the sensational “Wigstock!” You see, darling, this event has been happening since 1984, but this event, held in 2013, would see a return to its more street art, alternative roots, taking place at a Brooklyn Park, and featuring the legendary drag performer and “mother of the drag queen” Divine! Imagine that?
The show would also feature a stellar lineup, featuring the likes of Mother, a well-established performer in the NYC scene, Lady Bunny who truly helped to kickstart the iconic "Wigstock" event in the 80's, along with performers such as RuPaul himself, who was just starting out, darling, just beginning to get his first taste of mainstream recognition! Oh, the sheer delight! There are no words to describe it! You simply have to be there to feel it! I can just picture them, looking divine and magnificent, as the New York city sun shines on them, sending sparks of magic out all over the place!
Now, speaking of magic... do you love to dance, darlings? Of course, you do! That's why you’re wearing your own fabulous pink tutu, yes, it's why I’m always in a fabulous pink tutu! It's just one big fabulous dance party all the time!
What do you think, darlings? 2013 sounds like the most divine time for drag in all of history! I have so much to see! But I just can't do it alone!
