Post Number 1122: June 2013: Tutu Time Travelling Through Time...

Oh, my dears! It’s Emma here, back with another whirlwind of a post from my pink-tutu-powered travels through time! It's June, the month of blossoms, and let me tell you, my fellow fashionistas, it’s been a riotous trip! This month we're venturing back to the fabulous June of 2013, a year brimming with glamorous drag happenings, and you'll be gagging for all the gossip, darling!

As always, I must share that my trusty pink tutu is still going strong! It’s seen me through the Elizabethan era, the Roaring Twenties, even that pesky Great War! But alas, this month I've been struck by an unexpected urge – a desire for a whole new tutu, a flamboyant confection for my trip! So, the old dear had to stay behind in Derbyshire for a bit while I snagged myself the most delectable shade of pastel pink. She'll be joining me soon, though, because let's be real, there’s no adventure quite as fabulous as the one we share!

Now, darling, before I bore you with the nitty gritty of my shopping escapades, let's dive straight into what made June 2013 a glorious time for the drag community! The word "glitz" barely covers it!

Firstly, oh, my stars, did you hear about the legendary RuPaul’s Drag Race? The Season 5 finale just aired! Alaska Thunderfuck 5000 – who knew that a queen with that name could steal the crown?! Her look was fierce, her performances were jaw-dropping, and let's just say I shed a few happy tears. You could say I felt it deep in my soul, you know? It was like the very universe itself had handed the tiara to Alaska, because that is the level of brilliance we’re talking about, pet!

Speaking of brilliance, let's not forget about Jinkx Monsoon, Miss Congeniality. Her drag, darling! An absolute symphony of charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent! From her captivating performances to her endearing wit, Jinkx became a true force to be reckoned with. Seeing her slay that runway in that gloriously gaudy dress with her quirky sass and fierce spirit... ooh la la, my heart just did a full-on cartwheel, darling!

The whole of June 2013, darlings, felt like one giant drag extravaganza! On one hand, we had RuPaul, setting a whole new standard of drag artistry, and on the other hand... a true legend was returning to the stage! It was, my dears, the return of the one and only Divine, drag queen extraordinaire and film star, back in a full-fledged performance.

Now, for those of you who aren't familiar with this iconic queen, I shall illuminate you: Divine was the drag name of Harris Glenn Milstead, and he was a vision of fabulousness – a force of nature, I tell you! Think outrageous makeup, extravagant costumes and larger than life persona! Divine, darling, was an inspiration, and he made history with his comedic performances and iconic cinematic appearances. His comeback was absolutely sensational! Seeing this icon perform again – it was just... magical. Divine made the world feel like a playground where the only rules were to embrace all forms of beauty and creativity! And you know what, my lovelies, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Right now, my own shopping is calling! Ooh la la... I need to find a stunning outfit for this evening's performance! But before I go, I wanted to share some wisdom that's stayed with me ever since my June 2013 adventure. It was one of those little, shining moments, a chat I had with a beautiful woman named Brenda – she ran a sweet little dress shop in some charming part of Chicago! As she was fitting me with the most fabulous fuchsia dress for a drag ball (it was everything – with sparkling sequins, feathers and layers of frills – think an angel falling from heaven in a ball gown!), we got to chatting about how drag wasn’t just about fabulous outfits and stage performances – it was about making the world a better place, with glitter and a smile. Brenda had the most sparkling green eyes, darling, and her voice was as soft as silk!

"My dears," Brenda said as she meticulously adjusted the feathers on the dress (I can’t begin to describe the precision, darling, every single detail perfectly balanced!), “we must spread the magic of drag to the world, one tutu at a time.”

And, let me tell you, she's absolutely right! This, my dears, is my life's ambition! A world full of pink tutus? Oh, wouldn't that be delightful! Just imagine the possibilities, the possibilities... swoon!

Well, my darling dears, I’ll catch you next month with another exhilarating story from my travels through time! Do keep the pink tutus twirling, darlings! Remember, your uniqueness is your power, and there's no magic like that of a big, bright smile!

Love,

Emma x

P.S.

I simply must share a little tidbit about my shopping adventure. You know me – obsessed with finding that perfect pink tutu! I had wandered into the most wonderful shop called "Tutu Time" – what a wonderful coincidence! A delightful little lady called Barbara greeted me at the door, wearing a fabulous magenta tutu, and my dears, the shop itself was a symphony of colour! There were tutus of every colour imaginable – shimmering, swirling, and dazzlingly delightful! We were bonding over our love of pink, and Barbara just had to show me this one, my dears: it was made of the finest silk, shimmering like moonlight on a summer's night. I had to have it!

Barbara made it a little more special, she hand-painted the tutu, the pink the most beautiful shade of... pink-tastic, my dears. With shimmering glitter, delicate lace, and whimsical swirls... it was everything! Barbara, you have the most beautiful artistic touch. But there is another thing about this tutu that I'll never forget, because while it had every color you could think of, the pink stood out... just like the little green gemstone she hand-sewed onto one side, a reminder of that lovely woman named Brenda, and the beautiful moment we shared about spreading the magic of drag one tutu at a time. Oh my dears, it just makes me weep.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I'll have to go put on that fuchsia dress and prepare to hit the stage!

Ta-ta for now!

Love,

Emma x
