Post #1127: November 2013: "Twirling Back to a Glittery Glamorous Time"

Hello my darlings! It's your girl, Emma, coming to you live from the magical, glittering, and oh-so-pink time-traveling tutu vortex! I’m here to take you all on a trip back in time, to a world where feathered boas danced in the air, glitter was sprinkled like fairy dust, and everyone wished they had a pink tutu (and who can blame them?!).

This month, my magical tutu transported me to a glorious November in 2013. Let’s just say, it was a total whirlwind of glamour!

First things first, darling, I had to hit up the nearest stage for some drag! In this fabulous era, RuPaul's Drag Race was just ending its fifth season and the fierce queens of "Ru-sical" were giving their all. This time machine was a time for musicality, you know what I mean?! They were dancing, singing, and slaying the stage with their camp, charismatic energy! I loved how the "Ru-sical" concept really brought to life that grand, Broadway feel to drag - what a delightful touch for our artform, wouldn’t you agree?

Back in the world of theatrical productions, let’s talk about the fabulous “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert!” Now, this production had already captivated hearts in 2011, but it was still making waves with its vibrant and energetic portrayal of drag queens! Just imagine, seeing all those beautiful costumes and vibrant colours - it was a visual feast for the soul!

However, my dear readers, this blog post isn’t all about stage shows, although they’re truly incredible. We have to acknowledge what was happening on the street scene, darling. Remember how much we love a good fashion parade, right?! It seems like back then, the street scene was teeming with the queens' "Fierce! Fabulous! For-Real" realness! Just imagine, rocking that amazing vintage look with a sprinkle of camp - it was truly a time of drag transformation, you know?! And guess what else? Fashion houses like Moschino were just launching their Fall/Winter 2013 collections – with an abundance of pink, sparkles, and feathers! Honestly, I was pinching myself. I felt like I'd stepped straight out of one of their runway shows!

As a little bird from Derbyshire, I felt so at home during this trip! It’s a period in drag history when you could really see the progression towards what drag is today – we were getting ready to take the world by storm! This time travel experience was everything! Imagine strutting your stuff in a vintage pink tutu amongst the glitter and glam of the day – you can almost feel the music swirling around you! I don’t know about you, but that feeling makes me feel unstoppable! I really can't wait for my next trip! Until next time, stay glamorous, my darlings.

Until next month, when we go exploring once more...

Xx
Emma, your time-traveling, pink-tutu-wearing queen!
