Oh darling, October 2014 was positively positively dripping in drag. Everywhere you looked, the world was blossoming with sequins and sashay, and the glitter wasn't just on the floors! As the famous saying goes (though it wasn't in the air in 2014...it's more 2023 darling) â âDrag is Everywhere.â I could feel a truly epic drag odyssey on the horizon â one that demanded my time travelling tutu and me!
Fashion-forward 2014:
But before I go whisking you off to the shimmering stage, let's talk fashion. Oh my, this era in fashion, darling, was positively divine. Oh yes, there was a glorious, almost heavenly blend of glamour and edge that, to be honest, wasnât so much about fashion and more about...wellâŚfashion! It had attitude! It had boldness! I remember staring in awe, mesmerized by the sheer genius of the trends. We were truly in a golden age. Well, more of a glittery pink tutu age if you ask me! It was as though fashion designers had been tipped off about my favourite color, because every catwalk was draped in soft pink hues, and those delicate silks, satins, and chiffons... I couldn't resist the urge to grab a whole suitcase-full, which I then did. Because why not?
Speaking of silks and chiffons...darlings, it was just heavenly watching these outfits flutter and float around those incredible drag performances! So chic! Itâs hard not to imagine everyone wearing a tutu, and donât even get me started on the wigs! From sharp bob cuts with dramatic fringe to elaborate curls dripping with sparkle, those queens were making my wig fly right off!

The best part of my time travelling job, of course, is attending these absolutely fabulous events! I popped into a show in Londonâs West End, darling â it was absolutely phenomenal. The queens were like mythical creatures! I mean, think about it, performing for an audience under all those lights, with so much love in the air... Oh, darling, it was truly electrifying! It's truly a privilege to have witnessed all those divine shows â so much energy, and all that fantastic drag history in the making! It's my duty as a time traveller, you see, to bring the joy and wonder of drag to everyone!
Drag queen influencers in 2014
This October, there was also something a little different happening, something truly revolutionary. We saw these dazzling individuals⌠drag queensâŚyes, you heard it right, starting to appear on social media! GASP Oh, darling! Now, if you are as old as me, youâll be aware that, for many, many decades, social media wasn't quite around in its current glory!
It was a time of innovation, darling, where some absolutely fabulous drag queens were using their voices to speak to people all over the globe, telling everyone what they'd be seeing in person at shows around the world. Can you believe, back then they were practically... well... not celebrities. The queens were literally changing the very fabric of society! It was the perfect way for everyone to embrace the joy of drag, to celebrate these spectacular artists and what they offered. Just imagine!
But remember, there's more to life than drag - or is there?
Darling, though my time-traveling tutu whipped me back to Derbyshire ( I do miss a good slice of Derbyshire Bakewell tart, you know) by midnight, those unforgettable drag performances... those dazzling looks, and those extraordinary individuals â I couldn't let the day just fade into the night. That was the beginning of a mission. A dream. A plan that needed to come true, because drag was literally, in that instant, changing everything. That night I went out and bought a hundred pink tutus, and have been handing them out ever since, all across the globe! It is a privilege to bring drag history to life in a modern way.
Drag fashion is timeless!
Now that we are living in the wonderful time of now where drag has taken over every stage, TV show, red carpet and corner shop... darling... it really doesn't take a lot of imagination to see the effect those trail-blazing pioneers back in October 2014 had. To see the world wearing the pinkest tutus possible, with feathers, sequins, and that amazing, bright, unapologetic attitude that really shines so bright! I am a proud proponent of wearing pink tutus wherever you are - but letâs face it itâs even more exciting if it is with all your wonderful, talented drag queen friends by your side! And this blog, this magical world we share in tutus is, ultimately, about the joy of embracing life's extravagances with as much love and colour and sparkle as possible! And now darlings, the stage is set. Are you ready? Let's spread this fabulous pink tutu love to everyone around the world. I can't wait to see what October 2015 will bring, but for now, it's time for some time travelling, some shopping... And a delicious Bakewell tart... donât forget those, darling, Iâve missed them.
