Post 1139: Back in Time, Back in Tutu! November 2014 - Drag Diaries

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-loving time-travelling queen, Emma, back with another post for www.pink-tutu.com! Can you believe it's November already? The crisp air is nipping at my nose and the festive season is just around the corner - time to start getting my glam on for all the Christmas drag shows!

But before we get all tinselled up, I've got a very special trip to tell you about. You know me, I just can't resist a jaunt through the annals of drag history! This month, my magical pink tutu whisked me back to the fabulous November of 2014, a time when drag was thriving on a global stage and a whole heap of legendary moments were happening!

Hold onto your sequins, darling, because this one's a doozy!

Drag On the Big Screen: The 'RuPaul's Drag Race' Era

2014 was all about the global domination of RuPaul's Drag Race! The show had already become a phenomenon by this time, inspiring a new generation of queens to sashay into the spotlight. The sixth season was in full swing, featuring some of the most iconic characters ever to grace the Drag Race runway - Bianca Del Rio (crowned the winner this season, yas queen!), Adore Delano, Courtney Act, and Trinity K. Bonet. These ladies had the entire world obsessed with their personalities, performances and of course, the sickening looks they served.

This was also the year of the Drag Race premiere party at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC. The glitter and glamour, the legends all gathered - it was like stepping into a drag fantasy! I swear, the magic of that night could fuel my pink tutu for years. It was a real testament to the show's influence on the global drag scene - a night where history was literally being written.

Beyond the Screen: Drag Explodes Globally!

But RuPaul's Drag Race wasn't the only drag spectacle happening in 2014. The drag scene was exploding in countries around the world, from Europe to Asia, creating exciting opportunities for queer artists everywhere.

Think back, darlings - November 2014. In Australia, Miss Fame, Courtney Act, and Willam were holding their own tour with a production that promised to be "bigger, better, and bolder than ever". Can you imagine being in the audience for that show? I swear my heart would be beating out of my pink tutu.

Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, Drag Idol was picking up steam, with hopefuls from across the country vying for their chance at drag stardom. Imagine those early performances - so much raw talent! We might just be seeing some of the UK's current drag superstars in their younger, bolder forms!

Local Flavors: Drag Across the Globe!

Of course, drag was not only thriving in big cities. It was alive and well in smaller towns and villages all over the world. The beauty of drag lies in its ability to transform and empower, and that spirit was evident everywhere in 2014.

Remember when RuPaul's Drag Race was still relatively new, darling? You couldn't swing a cat without hitting someone talking about how drag was gaining acceptance and finding new audiences in countries like China and Mexico. It was the most wonderful time, seeing how this incredible art form was crossing borders and touching hearts.

My Trip in November 2014: Back to the Basics!

You might be thinking, "Emma, a world tour? How glamorous!" Well, darlings, I wouldn't have missed it for the world, but this particular trip was all about embracing the local flavour of drag. I made my way to a charming little village in Derbyshire, where my time-traveling pink tutu landed me smack-dab in the middle of the "Queens of Derbyshire" annual drag fundraiser.

The event was a glorious mix of local talent and enthusiastic locals, with a good dollop of fun, laughter, and a touch of cheeky innuendo. The stage was simple - think fairy lights and a disco ball - but the performances were nothing short of breathtaking. The crowd was buzzing with excitement, clapping along and cheering their hearts out. I even had the chance to join the party and learn a few moves with the lovely ladies - you know me, always a fan of learning a new routine!

That evening, as the lights went up on the final act, I couldn't help but reflect on how far drag had come. It had grown from a subculture, into a cultural phenomenon. The "Queens of Derbyshire" fundraising night was a microcosm of this growth, showing how drag can bring people together, raise money for worthy causes, and ultimately, make the world a little more fabulous!

My Message: Wear Your Pink Tutu With Pride!

Darlings, it was a real eye-opener seeing the evolution of drag in just a few short years. The magic of 2014 - from the big productions to the intimate local events - reminded me that drag is a force for good in the world. It's about individuality, creativity, and bringing joy to people of all walks of life.

And that's why my mission remains unchanged, dear readers. Spread the love of pink tutus far and wide! Let your true colours shine, find your tribe, and always, always remember to wear your pink tutu with pride.
