Tutus, Time Travel & Derbyshire Dreamin'
I woke up this morning feeling oh-so-pink! As usual, I put on my most fabulous pink tutu and, with a flick of my magic wand (don't ask how it got in my bag - a girl's gotta keep her secrets, right?) I zipped myself back to February 2015. Now, some of you might know that I'm from Derbyshire, a rather lovely bit of England, full of rolling hills and quaint villages. I have to confess, being away from home does make me feel a little homesick - but a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do!
The Scene in 2015: A Glittering Gathering
February 2015 was brimming with exciting drag events! Remember RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7? The competition was fierce and the queens were truly living their best lives! In that month alone, there were several episodes full of sickening looks, lip sync battles to the death, and enough sass to fill the entire London Palladium!
Let's not forget about Bianca del Rio! She was serving as a judge on the season, and I can't lie - she absolutely stole the show with her signature sharp wit and dazzling drag. Remember her infamous critique "you are a piece of plastic..."? Iconic!
Meanwhile, the drag scene was not limited to the television! It was buzzing across the globe, from NYC's legendary Stonewall Inn to the vibrant queer scene of Berlin! In every corner of the world, drag queens were spreading joy, art, and a whole lot of sass.
Shopping, Shows & Sashing it Up!
But drag isn't just about the performances. It's also about the shopping, darling! Back in February 2015, the runways were ablaze with fashion! I made a beeline for a gorgeous vintage shop in Soho, London, where I scored a pair of vintage platform boots – absolutely perfect for strutting my stuff on the stage! I also snapped up a fabulous silver sequined gown and a pair of crystal earrings. Now, if that's not a recipe for a perfect night out, I don't know what is!
The drag scene was flourishing with fantastic events too. Drag balls, hosted by iconic queens, were the ultimate place to dance the night away. There were costume parties, drag brunches, and of course, countless amazing shows featuring the brightest stars in the world of drag. Imagine a drag queen convention! It's a whirlwind of glittery chaos, but in the best way possible!
Tutu Inspiration
My darling, February 2015 was a glorious explosion of creativity! Drag queens everywhere were embracing colour, bold looks, and fearless self-expression. And trust me, every drag queen was wearing some sort of tutu! Some even had pink ones – can you imagine! I even managed to snag a photo with a drag queen who was rocking a truly spectacular tulle tutu creation, the envy of every ballerina and drag queen on Earth!
