Pink Tutu Time Travels: May 2015 - The Tutu Takes Flight!

Hello my darling divas! It’s Emma, your pinkest-tutu-clad time travelling drag queen extraordinaire! And get ready to unleash your inner flamingo, because today we’re travelling all the way back to May 2015! This was a big month, darling! It was a month where we were on the brink of something new and fabulous. So, climb aboard my magical pink tutu – your one-way ticket to fabulousness! Buckle up, dearie, this month's trip is going to be a total shocker.

This month's blog, my dears, marks number 1145, which makes it official, darling! The pink tutu has well and truly taken flight, becoming the most sought-after travel companion. I've got to say, being a time-travelling drag queen has its perks, darlings. One perk is discovering fabulous shows in the past, and sharing all the juicy gossip! Now, my life isn't just tutus and glitter (though those are certainly my favourite parts). It takes hard work! Funding these journeys isn't easy – so I spend a lot of time in Derbyshire, working my sequins off on stage at The Queen of Hearts pub! But it's all worth it for the chance to travel to some amazing eras. And just imagine the vintage pieces you can snag at a past fashion house! Let's get to the juicy bits!

New York, New York: May 2015 - Where Drag Becomes Mainstream!

New York, my darlings, was absolutely bursting with fabulousness in May 2015. The glitter was on fire and the shade was hotter than a pair of sequins left in the sun! We’ve been witnessing a drag queen revolution for ages, darling. But May 2015 was a turning point. Remember "RuPaul's Drag Race" season 7? This was the season! The one with the absolutely sickening Violet Chachki who would steal the crown in the season finale in June, and that little ditty "Coco's Monster", a queen to keep a careful eye on for future seasons! Let’s not forget my dear Bianca Del Rio (queen of all queens!). Oh, the drag renaissance in the USA was on! It was just about to start gaining traction across the pond…

The great thing is, darlings, back in 2015, things were just beginning to become mainstream. It felt intimate, it felt like drag belonged to the queens who loved it – and you just knew it was something special. In May, RuPaul announced a series of shows for The RuPaul's Drag Race Tour! Oh honey, what a blast it would have been to see all these divas on one stage together – they truly deserved their moment of celebration. Remember it? The RuPaul's Drag Race Tour 2015?! This would later be known as "The Main Stage Tour." Now that was the era of drag being more accessible – to those of us living a little bit closer to the East Coast…

Now this was an epic event darling! RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas kicked off in March 2015, starring Jinkx Monsoon, Bianca del Rio, Alaska and Willam. What an incredible opportunity to celebrate drag's rise to global fame! Imagine yourself surrounded by shimmering gowns, strutting in pink sequins with this dazzling quartet as you travel through a pink time portal!

London Calling: A Drag Revolution on the Horizon!

Oh, darling, you thought I’d forget about my lovely London! The heart of the empire had plenty going on too! The first London Drag Idol was starting in 2015. Now, honey, this was a turning point, the turning point, where British Drag took centre stage! Think of it: the launch of a British drag show where aspiring divas can really strut their stuff, with queens of different colours and textures showing what they’ve got!

Remember all the big events taking place across the world, from Europe to Asia, the pink tutu has travelled them all! If you're like me and love a drag queen bingo night, then my lovely Derbyshire would’ve given you a few fun events to enjoy back in 2015 – some events held at The Queen of Hearts. The Queen of Hearts Pub would see many Drag Nights featuring the iconic Dolly D'Amour and Lady Gaga impersonator – my goodness! Drag has come so far.

But it doesn’t end there darlings! The World of Drag was thriving globally with performances everywhere you looked: from the Queens Of Drag Ball at Club 222 to the legendary shows at Roxy Bar. I remember it all – those dazzling, shimmering moments when drag became bigger than life itself!

Now I just have to say darling… The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, this 1994 Aussie film? It would have been so epic to witness it in 2015. The iconic story of a drag queen’s road trip, bursting with creativity, glitter and colourful, shimmering costumes is one I still cherish now. This story would go on to inspire Drag Race – its legacy will forever shine in the pinkest hues imaginable!

2015: A Month of Change and Glitter!

May 2015, my dear darlings! A time to reflect on how much we've evolved. In many ways, this month was a harbinger of a new era. But it was the past, like every past moment, that built up to this moment! It was a month of change – where drag queens truly took charge!

As a time-travelling drag queen, I’ve got the most wonderful privilege of experiencing all of drag’s historical moments firsthand. My aim? It’s all for you! I want everyone to find their inner sparkle and dance with abandon. That’s my dream: to make pink tutus accessible for everyone in every era! It’s about sharing joy, darlings, about reminding ourselves of the incredible power that drag brings!

It was all just the beginning for the world of drag. The most incredible time to be a Drag Queen… It's like walking a mile in 10-inch heels! I can't wait to see what happens in May 2023! We'll travel to May 2016 next, darling. Let me know what you want to see in the future – you never know where we may go next. I'm counting on you to leave me some comments and maybe share your own drag memories on the website - www.pink-tutu.com. Until next month darlings, spread the sparkle and rock the pink tutus! Remember – if you don’t have a pink tutu, you have nothing! 😉
