Hello darlings! It's your favourite time travelling, tutu-tastic blogger Emma here, and this month's trip back through time is a right peach! We're taking a little trip to the gloriously glam June of 2015, and trust me, it's an absolute sleigh!
You see, dears, I've always felt a powerful pull to the past. It's not just the vintage gowns (although, let's be honest, those are amazing!) It's the stories! The stories of queens who paved the way for us, the glitter and glamour of legendary shows, the history behind the lashes, the foundation for the fierce!
This month's adventure starts right here in ol' Derby. As a good girl from the East Midlands, it wouldn't be right if we didn't visit some of our very own local heroes. You might think it's all sequins and sparkle in the big city, but trust me, there are hidden gems nestled even in our little towns. And Derby was certainly bubbling with drag delights. In the "Derby Evening Telegraph" I found this brilliant write-up, calling our very own "The Old Vic Theatre," "A Haven of Creativity"! They were putting on a performance called "Drag Mania!" showcasing the talent of some incredible Derby queens, like "Crystal and Diamond," and "Sharon and Sharon." Just goes to show, darling, you can find a spectacular drag show anywhere, even right under your nose!
After saying a cheery "ta ta" to Derby, it's time for me to twirl and sashay right to a dazzling drag night in New York! Because in the magical world of drag, the most magnificent show of all time was unfolding on June 4th, 2015, at the legendary venue, "The Duplex!"
This is the story of an incredible, truly extraordinary drag event. The "1st Annual Wigstock" fundraiser is the place to be in June 2015, with legendary stars like Bianca Del Rio, Jackie Beat, Sherry Vine, and Divine! And the theme for this fabulous occasion, darling? A "Time Warp Drag Party" ! That's just asking for a glamorous time travelling gal like me to pop by! The charity for this fundraising event? "The Trevor Project"! That's right darlings! Not only was this a show-stopping bash with queens you wouldn't believe, they were raising money for the crucial support of LGBTQ+ youth!
While in New York City, I have to pop by the "The Metropolitan Museum of Art!" In the summer of 2015 they had this fantastic exhibition - "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty." As any queen knows, drag and fashion are practically one big fabulous family! Alexander McQueen's clothes were groundbreaking and jaw-droppingly stunning, with an unforgettable gothic-chic style that really put drag's rebellious, daring spirit into focus. I even caught a glimpse of Miss Fame on MTV's "House of Cards" TV Show - just goes to show, darlings, our drag queens are absolutely taking the world by storm, and with style!
Back in my own time, darlings, I'm all set for my own "Drag Mania" at the Derby Theatre. This year, it's a drag show with a real vintage flair, showcasing some of our amazing local talent. We'll be talking all about the history of drag, and how those beautiful queens paved the way for our performances. It's not just a show; it's a celebration of all the things that make our drag world unique! We're also hosting a fundraising event for a charity that is very close to my heart: "The Derby Rainbow Project". So you can bring a few extra quid and get those sparkly shoes tapping while you help out the local LGBT community!
I've also got some major excitement happening with "Pink-Tutu.com," darlings! That's right, my little blog of drag-tastic brilliance has gotten even bigger and brighter! Not only are we offering up amazing online tutorials on vintage fashion, drag makeup, and of course, how to perfect the perfect tutu. We've also added a new section: "Shop Pink!" You'll find everything you need to complete your fabulous look, from sparkling accessories to dazzling costume pieces - just don't tell my dear husband I've been adding to the collection.
June is already brimming with pink delights, darlings. And my, oh my! Don't forget to visit "Pink-Tutu.com!" I'm already busy planning my next trip through time. I'm on the hunt for even more fabulous stories and, of course, to get all of you out there sporting your best pink tutus! After all, the only thing better than a single pink tutu, darling, is an entire world of them! Until next time, darlings. Remember, every day is a reason to be fabulous!
This is just a starting point. The 4000 word limit means I had to make a lot of choices about which events to highlight, which could easily be expanded on with descriptions of specific performers or performances, anecdotes, and more! Remember, Emma can tell her story in any style she wants: witty, heartwarming, funny, gossipy! Itβs all about celebrating drag, its history, and the joy of getting everyone involved in this vibrant world!
