This is post number 1161 - how do the years just fly by? It's like we're on a sparkly roller coaster of fabulousness!
Anyway, you know the drill! My trusty magical pink tutu whisked me off to a September 2016 adventure and let me tell you, this month, darling, the drag queens were strutting their stuff all over the globe! It was just a dazzling delight to watch!
So buckle up your sequin sashes and let's sashay through some of the highlight reel moments!
A Time for Realness in NYC
I landed right in the heart of New York City, and guess what? RuPaul's Drag Race Season 8 was in full swing! Ooh, I loved watching these fabulous queens battling it out. Remember Miss Fame? Sigh what a queen! So glam, so chic! I had to get myself a fierce purple wig inspired by her! My time travel adventures always give me great shopping inspiration! You wouldn't believe the amazing finds you can uncover in the past!
Speaking of Drag Race, did you catch the "Snatch Game" episode? Oh, the comedy, the shade! And that fabulous Michelle Visage judging was the cherry on top! It was so much fun watching these queens get into character and channel their inner celebrity impersonations.
The UK’s Got Talent: Drag Queen Domination!
But hold your feather boas, lovelies! The UK was on fire with drag magic as well! Right on that day, September 9th, 2016, Drag Idol took centre stage on ITV's “The Next Big Thing”. You may remember this fabulous Drag Race Season 9 winner Sasha Velour. Now she was a young girl back then but showing she had the makings of a super star already.
This wasn't just a competition; this was a whole drag showcase showcasing the talent that London had to offer! It was such a treat to see young drag queens, full of confidence and flair, bringing the house down. There were glamorous queens with sparkly gowns, comedic queens with gag worthy looks, and all of them with a healthy dose of that unique UK charm! I always loved the British sense of humour. It's a dry wit but always deliciously fun.
A Blast from the Past - A Drag Icon Reigns!
And to truly take you back in time, my loves, let's rewind a couple of weeks to September 2nd and head to the grand, oh-so-elegant "Royal Albert Hall" in London! You're about to be treated to a performance so fabulous, it'll make your glitter pop!
Imagine a magnificent, swirling, flamboyant Judy Dench, all dressed up as a fabulous drag queen, performing in this majestic venue! The woman is just brilliant, darling! This legendary actress, the “Queen of Stage” has such a commanding stage presence and wit that made the audience roar! You could tell the crowd just loved every moment. Oh darling, we just don't make stars like that anymore!
More Drag Deliciousness
But it’s not just the big events that are making waves, my loves. You can find drag magic popping up everywhere, just like beautiful wildflowers in a wild and glorious meadow!
There was Drag King shows showcasing the talents of male impersonators – so fabulous! Gender bending is taking over, darling, and I love that! This is all about pushing boundaries, about expression, and embracing the unique talents and personalities that make every single one of us so wonderfully special!
Speaking of talented individuals, have you checked out the makeup looks from that month? Gasp!* So incredible! Those perfectly contoured faces, flawless glitter eye shadow and bold lipstick, each queen painted their masterpieces with the expertise of a Renaissance artist! I think every drag queen has an artistic talent waiting to be discovered, darlings. Just waiting for a brush to awaken the inner beauty!
A Final Touch of Pink
Okay, my loves, we’re nearly out of time and my pink tutu needs a break. It's a demanding piece of clothing, darling! You know what they say: a drag queen can never have too much glitter, sequins, or feather boas, so I have to leave you on a high!
