Post Number 1193: May 2019 - The Ballet Bonanza! 🩰

Hey darlings! Emma here, your favourite Derbyshire drag queen, back with another thrilling instalment from the archives of my time-travelling tutu! It's May 2019, and believe me, you won't believe what I've stumbled upon! ✨

I landed in London, and let me tell you, darling, the energy was electric! The London drag scene was simply bubbling over with talent! I saw these fabulous performers doing their thing at the RVT, at the Vauxhall Tavern, at the Glory - everywhere! And every venue was absolutely jam-packed with glitter and laughter. Honestly, the atmosphere was simply divine! 💖

Now, for those of you who haven't had the pleasure of experiencing a proper drag show, let me paint you a picture. Imagine a stage bathed in dazzling lights, shimmering with rhinestones. The music pulsates with energy, and the crowd roars with cheers and applause. The queens strut and sashay in gowns that could make a princess jealous, their makeup a masterpiece of artistry. And they have that sparkle in their eyes, that sass in their step, that something truly special that just radiates onto everyone in the room! That's the magic of drag, darlings!

Now, about my time travelling adventures. You see, it's May 2019, which means the RuPaul's Drag Race season 11 finale is just around the corner. And let me tell you, I was beyond excited to be there to witness this legendary night! It was simply incredible - the queens all looked stunning, the performances were breath-taking, and of course, we crowned our queen for the season! 👑

The whole week leading up to the finale was a whirlwind! I spent every night at a different drag show. From cabaret clubs in Soho to late-night basement parties in East London, I just couldn't get enough of this amazing world. I was like a giddy school girl in a candy shop, seeing all these phenomenal performers. It was inspiring, entertaining, and it made my little drag queen heart soar! 💕

However, London was not the only city with a flourishing drag scene. My time-travelling tutu also landed me in New York, San Francisco, and even Sydney! Across the globe, the message was clear - Drag is a global phenomenon. It transcends cultures, boundaries, and even time! It's all about self-expression, creativity, and having a good time.

And speaking of time travel, can you believe it's been almost a decade since that amazing season of Drag Race? It seems like only yesterday I was watching it live with my fellow Derbyshire queens, gasping at the brilliance on screen. And seeing how drag has evolved, how it’s exploded into the mainstream, has been an absolutely glorious thing. From reality TV stars to Broadway queens, from museum exhibits to fashion runways, drag has truly taken its rightful place on the world stage.

Now, back to this amazing pink tutu of mine. Oh darling, it has seen some things! From a raucous night in a San Francisco drag bar to a star-studded Broadway opening night, from a backstage glimpse of RuPaul himself (I’m not saying we’re friends, but we do share the same stylist!) to a chat with one of the first queens from Drag Race season 1 (whose name I won’t divulge because... confidentiality, honey, but she’s got some fabulous stories!). 🤫

It's important to remember though, drag isn’t just about the glitz and glamour, although those are definitely important! It's also about telling stories, pushing boundaries, and celebrating diversity. It’s about finding strength and acceptance, and it's about bringing people together with a shared sense of joy and laughter. It's about owning who you are, no matter what.

Which is exactly what I’m doing. Here, right now, in this very blog post. So darling, tell me – how have YOU been celebrating drag? What shows have you been enjoying? What’s been inspiring you lately? Leave your comments below!

Remember, everyone has their inner drag queen waiting to shine, so get that glitter out and let your fabulous self free! 😉

And lastly, darlings, as always: don't forget, Pink is the colour of power, and tutus are the universal language of fabulousness! So grab your favourite pink tutu, put on a song you love, and get ready to sashay your way into your best self. 💕

Lots of love and glitter,

Emma
