#DragQueenHistory: June 2019 - Pink-Tutu Time Travel - Blog Post 1194

Hello darlings! Welcome back to my pink-tutu infused time travel blog! I'm your ever-so-slightly-obsessed-with-tutus blogger, Emma, and I'm thrilled to be taking you all on another adventure through the colourful history of drag! This month, we're waltzing back to June 2019. Grab your fanciest feather boa and let's twirl back through time!

You see, I've got a very specific vision for the world: a world where every single one of you fabulous creatures is sporting a pink tutu. Pink tutus make everything better, I tell you! From the supermarket to a royal gala, the power of a pink tutu is undeniable. But enough about my mission, let's talk drag history!

June 2019: A Time for Glitter & Glitz!

June 2019 was a hotbed of drag excellence! My sparkly radar picked up so many exciting events, from thrilling performances to landmark milestones. As usual, I was whisked away on my trusty pink tutu time-machine, ready to witness the wonders of the drag world in all its glorious diversity.

Let’s catch up on some fabulous happenings…

First things first: RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 11 was at its peak! Remember all the drama? That iconic "Girl, bye!" from Brooke Lynn Hytes, the divine Yvie Oddly winning the whole shebang, and the chaotic ā€œWho are you?ā€ from Nina West? Ah, memories! June was a whirlwind of emotions watching this season unfold, and the finale? Pure magic!

The US wasn't the only place buzzing with drag excellence! Over in London, Bianca Del Rio hosted the grand reopening of The Phoenix! I popped in wearing a feather boa bigger than a double-decker bus, of course! It was a real treat, a truly glamorous event filled with drag queens and theatre enthusiasts alike! You know me, I snagged a few selfies with the queens (and by ā€œsnagged,ā€ I mean my phone was brilliantly grabbed out of my hand for a series of impromptu photo-shoots!).

It’s a time when the UK scene was also on fire! *Drag queens like the ever-so-funny *Baga Chipz were making waves, paving the way for the current UK scene and proving that drag isn't just for the big city. This made me proud, my fellow Derbyshire lass. Baga Chipz, with her quick wit and hilarious performances, made me see the beauty of grassroots drag. I may love a glamorous fashion show, but I truly admire the passion and commitment in these independent venues.

Speaking of drag across the UK, I was simply blown away by The Big Gay Cabaret, a fundraiser for HIV/AIDS in Scotland. Drag Queens from far and wide came together to celebrate the incredible work being done for our community. This is what truly inspires me: drag used as a platform for social change and acceptance!

Global Glamour:

The beauty of drag lies in its ability to bring communities together across borders and oceans. And guess what I saw? A spectacular Drag King event taking place in Brazil! It made me think, why aren’t drag kings celebrated more worldwide? There's something utterly inspiring about drag kings, and I'm always happy to shine a spotlight on their amazing performances!

Remember, the heart of drag is about self-expression and inclusivity, and seeing so many queens shining from across the world was a powerful reminder that we’re all connected through our love of drag!

The Tutu Takes Centre Stage:

In the month of June, 2019, my love for the pink tutu only intensified. Seeing the sheer variety of drag queen fashion across the globe fuelled my dream.

I even found an online shop specializing in tutus - can you imagine? This place sold tutus of every color, style, and length - enough to create a veritable rainbow of possibilities for our fashion adventures.

This month was a reminder of how integral fashion is to drag. From structured gowns with majestic headdresses to sparkly ensembles with the biggest heels you’ve ever seen, the fashion scene was bursting with imagination. Drag allows us to play with silhouettes, colours, textures, and embellishments - truly embracing individuality and pushing boundaries.

But don’t think for a second I am ignoring street style! There are plenty of opportunities for pink tutus beyond the theatre. Think: strutting through Covent Garden, taking a whimsical stroll around Paris, or even adding a dash of pink flair to a family barbeque (after all, who doesn't love a touch of whimsy?)!

A Toast to the Future of Drag:

This is why we do it, darlings! For the shared laughter, for the creative expression, and for the sheer joy of celebrating everything drag stands for! From the glam to the grit, from the big stages to the tiny, hidden pubs, drag unites us, encourages self-expression, and fuels our love for all things beautiful.

So, there you have it! A quick peek into the fascinating world of drag back in June 2019. I can't wait to show you more, and maybe inspire you to wear your own pink tutu out on the town!
