This month, weâre diving into the archives, shimmying back to July 2019 - a time when the world of drag was blooming with talent and innovation. Buckle your sequins, put on your highest heels, and prepare for a whirlwind of glitter and fabulousness, my loves!
It was a time of shimmering excitement, my dears! July 2019 was the perfect month to be living in the pink, and let me tell you, this queen was definitely feeling the joy. Weâre talking about some spectacular happenings across the drag landscape. Drag Race, our glorious source of iconic moments, was airing season 11, with stars like Brooke Lynn Hytes, Silky Nutmeg Ganache and Yvie Oddly setting the stage on fire. Oh honey, donât even get me started on Silkyâs runway fashion, Iâm practically dripping with jealousy!
My fellow queens were working those runways, performing their hearts out, and making history all over the globe!
Speaking of global impact, Divineâs legacy was continuing to be celebrated - we saw a whole lot of iconic "Pink Flamingos" merch on Etsy and Ebay, not to mention an outpouring of appreciation from fellow performers whoâd been influenced by the âDivine of dragâ as they called him! This kind of lasting impact shows that Drag truly is about more than just feathers and make-up.
Across the world, the Drag Race fandom was blowing up â every Friday night saw the Twittersphere erupting in joyous, sarcastic, and sometimes scathing tweets. The meme scene, darlings, it was something else! The sheer volume of fabulous memes shared was positively iconic!
But you know me, darlings â a true queen of the arts needs a bit more than online chatter to keep the spirits high. Thankfully, the month of July offered some real-life treats to the eye, my dears. If I'd been travelling back to that July in my enchanted pink tutu, imagine the venues I would have sashayed into!
Across the Atlantic, the iconic Edinburgh Fringe Festival was buzzing with queerness and drag! Just picturing myself amongst the crowds, a splash of pink amongst the throng, witnessing the latest, cutting-edge performances, getting those Instagram-worthy snaps, and of course, catching a fabulous Scottish show - absolutely magical, honey!
In the United States, darling, the stage was a melting pot of brilliance! Across the nation, countless drag nights were being held, each with their own unique twist. Drag Brunch in San Francisco, a drag show at a bowling alley in Austin, a lip sync showdown in New York. Oh honey, I bet those drag balls in New York City would be legendary.
Closer to my Derbyshire home, a whole host of fab events were popping off. The UK was no slouch in the Drag department either! I was yearning for the glitter and camp of a local night, even just catching a glimpse of those fab costumes backstage. Those talented queens putting their own twist on Drag - it was the magic I crave, darling!
But darling, letâs not forget the one constant that connects all drag queens, past and present: fashion, honey, fashion! I swear, July 2019 must have seen more outrageous outfits on a daily basis than ever before! The street style trends in New York City and London were a feast for the eyes - bold colors, outlandish patterns and a whole lot of drag-inspired edge.
Speaking of fashion, imagine being a pink-tutu wearing ballerina queen at the hottest street fashion events? A fashion-forward masterpiece, donât you think? Itâs a drag queenâs dream!
And the designers! Oh darling, there were so many incredible drag fashion designers popping up on Instagram and social media. Just thinking about how much talent was out there - those intricate, eye-catching looks were truly making the drag scene even more beautiful.
So here we are, back to the present with a heart full of glitter and a head full of ideas! This is the life we drag queens live, darling, and itâs nothing short of extraordinary!
