Pink Tutu Time Travels: November 2019 - A Ballet of Big Dreams!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travels, darlings! It's your girl Emma, back with another jaunt through the magnificent timeline of drag history. As ever, it’s a whirlwind of feather boas, glittery eyeshadow, and enough fabulousness to make a nun shout ā€œhallelujah!ā€ This month, we're taking a dip into the year 2019, specifically, the fabulous month of November, to catch a glimpse of what was making the world of drag sashay and twirl. Grab a cuppa and let's get into it! This is post number 1199 on www.pink-tutu.com - where pink tutus rule the world!

My magical pink tutu swirled me back to a time where the internet was buzzing about Drag Race season 11 - the ā€œAmericanā€ one, darling! We’ve had a look at this in earlier blog posts, and let’s face it, the excitement is still building, even to this day, about the amazing Queens that graced the season! And what were we looking forward to this November? Why, the crowning of Miss Congeniality, of course! And boy oh boy, it didn’t disappoint! A total shocker with Yvie Oddly, our beloved fashionista and quirky queen taking the title! And as the Drag Race fans know, her signature was her tutus - yes, tutus! If she could see the future of drag and know that, one day, in a little English town called Chesterfield, a pink tutu-wearing time traveller would be dedicated to pink tutus - well, she’d be thrilled! It really is a big pink tutu world! You have to wonder, does she still wear them, and what colour are they? This is a matter for future research, dear readers! Let’s find out!

Now, November wasn’t all about RuPaul’s Drag Race. Let’s face it, there are so many incredible queens out there - even beyond the US - and we need to give some love to the others! It was the time for Sasha Velour, our ever-artistic, poetic, and truly stunning queen - to tour. That's right, the beauty who won the entire tenth season was serving up a smorgasbord of fierce, captivating performance art across the country! Talk about a treat! From her first solo tour in January, the beautiful queen, in November, brought her work to some of America’s most fantastic cities and thrilled everyone. Sasha’s work? - It is all about telling stories, darling! It’s about beautiful art that connects with audiences through strong characters. Sasha brought her incredible talent to shows and theaters in every state in the US, leaving hearts and minds aglow!

Across the Atlantic in my home town of Chesterfield, well, we were getting busy too, darling! We may not have been lucky enough to catch a Sasha show - that would be an absolute dream! But that doesn’t mean our own drag shows and performances were any less special! In November 2019, our local pub, The Blue Bell, hosted an incredible performance by some of our most dazzling and glamorous queens. Imagine! We're talking a mix of theatre, music, dance - it's drag in its finest form, with a healthy dose of cheeky humour! It really was a feast for the senses. These incredible performers were able to share their unique art forms with us and, boy oh boy, we all absolutely loved it! These nights are what make drag such a beautiful community, full of energy, talent, and absolute fabulosity! The local drag queens would, in many years, be thrilled to know that their performances would be lauded and spoken of across the ages! Just like a Titian portrait - only with even more fabulousness!

Now, before I slip into the time-bending folds of my pink tutu and jet back to the present, I must add my own personal opinion. These events remind me just how incredibly exciting and varied the drag world is. It's an ongoing journey of self-expression, of creating art and sharing beauty. If there’s one thing you can be sure of - the queens of Chesterfield were, without a doubt, inspired by all the incredible performers from around the world, like Sasha and all the others - and just because their journeys were local, did not diminish them one little bit. Every single Queen is just as vital as the others and deserves an audience to love their art and the hard work they put in to bring something fabulous to their local town, village, pub or theatre. They all shine and inspire in their own, unique way. It is something truly special to be a part of - from Chesterfield to every part of the globe!

Now, before I pop into the folds of my time-bending pink tutu and slip into next month’s story of drag, let's share some positivity! Do share what makes you excited about drag in the comments section below. Don't forget to share what makes your town special! Stay tuned, darling, there is so much more to see and celebrate in the world of drag! Keep the pink tutu-wearing dreams going, and don't forget to live life as glamorously as possible! Now, let's raise a glass to the pink tutus, all over the world, and say, ā€œIt’s so very, very fabulous to be alive!"

Yours in glitter and tulle, Emma
