Post #1200: The Tutu Takes Over Tokyo! (December 2019)

Hello my darlings, Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, time-traveling drag queen extraordinaire, and welcome to another thrilling edition of "A Drag Queen’s Guide to Time Travelā€! This month, I’ve been shimmying and shaking my way through the glittering history of December 2019, and let me tell you, the world of drag was on fire!

But before we get into the nitty-gritty of fabulous festivities, let’s have a chinwag about how my travels are funded. Now, a girl’s gotta have a bit of income, right? You know, for sparkly fabrics, sequins that glimmer brighter than a supernova, and those outrageous eyelashes that would make even the most dramatic butterfly jealous. Well, I'm not afraid of a little hustle, darlings! When I’m not zipping around the time-space continuum in my magical pink tutu, I’m serving up fierce looks and dazzling performances at the hottest drag nights in Derbyshire. From the back rooms of quaint little pubs to the glittering stage lights of our county's grandest venues, it's a labour of love, and let me tell you, those tips are the real fuel to my time-traveling adventures!

Now, where was I? Oh, yes! December 2019! Imagine, if you will, a December filled with glitter, glam, and enough lip-syncing to make even the biggest of pop divas weep with joy.

As you know, darlings, I’ve got a thing for ballet - those costumes, those tutus! My love affair with them is as strong as my devotion to drag, and so naturally, this month took me to the land of the rising sun – Japan! There, I found myself amongst a gaggle of fabulous drag queens strutting their stuff on stage, in dazzlingly elaborate outfits that rivaled even the grandest ballet production! I even managed to slip a few ballet moves into my set - a grand jetĆ© here, a pirouette there. Let’s just say that my tutu got a serious workout in those elegant dance halls!

However, the fun didn't stop in Tokyo. The international drag scene was bubbling, darlings! Across the globe, from New York City’s legendary Stonewall Inn to London's vibrant drag nights, the world of drag was ablaze with fierce talent, dazzling costumes, and an abundance of charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent.

It's no surprise that my trip to NYC saw me surrounded by some of the most iconic drag queens, showcasing everything from fierce lip-syncing to mind-bending stage presence. The energy in the air was electric! In fact, I felt a bit like a glittering hummingbird, buzzing around these magical events, sipping nectar of sheer artistry from every glittering goblet of creativity!

And as the December festivities cranked up a notch, I realised how important a time this is for the drag scene.

So, let’s get into those details, darlings! Let’s explore what 2019’s December brought to the drag world, a whirlwind of events!

  • RuPaul's Drag Race: Season 11! We’re talking fierce lip-syncs, gorgeous runway looks, and enough drama to make the Real Housewives blush. The season was a roller coaster, and it ended in a blaze of glitter and glory! From the fabulousness of Yvie Oddly to the fierceness of Brooke Lynn Hytes, we had a diverse cast full of incredible talent.

  • RuPaul's Drag Race: Season 12: Premiere! It’s an era of fierce competition, my dears! A season full of hilarious personalities and talented queens who brought their unique flare to the show. And you know, let’s be honest, some were better than others… ahem cough cough.

  • A plethora of International Drag Shows and Events! December 2019 was truly a feast for drag enthusiasts. I’m talking packed clubs, bustling parties, and enough sequins and feathers to rival the grand finale of a Parisian fashion show. The international drag community was absolutely on fire. And believe me, with my magical tutu taking me around the globe in a flash, I wouldn’t have missed it for all the makeup palettes in the world!

A Touch of Glamour and Style!

But you know what makes my heart sing more than even the most extravagant drag show? It’s that little dash of glamour in our daily lives, my darlings! For me, that comes in the form of a glorious pink tutu, and it's a joy seeing how even a touch of colour can brighten the dullest of days.

The world of fashion was alight with pink in December 2019. A multitude of high-end designers were taking the runways by storm with exquisite garments featuring all shades of pink, from dusty rose to shocking fuchsia. These stunning displays of pink fashion showed how even a single colour could express such an amazing variety of emotions, and of course, each look evoked such fantastic levels of sophistication and pure beauty!

The fashion world has a true knack for turning the most subtle colour into a daring fashion statement. Who could imagine the fashion industry could have found such endless variety in shades of pink? Truly, pink is a versatile colour, one that looks equally charming when used in an everyday ensemble or the most grand and elegant ball gown! And you know, it even shows off your personality, no matter what colour your personality happens to be. I know mine certainly shows off a bubbly, bubbly kind of self, much like a glass of prosecco on a hot day!

And of course, pink isn’t just for fashion shows and glamorous events. If I can get away with rocking a pink tutu every single day, you can add a bit of pink into your own lives too. Maybe you can spice things up by pairing a pink shirt with your favourite denim jeans. Or try sporting a pink tie with a sharp suit! You’ll see it’s not just a fabulous colour to wear, it's a mood booster as well! I find a good sprinkle of pink tends to attract happy vibes to your days. You never know what delightful little encounters you may find along the way.

You might even bump into a very bubbly and fashionably time-traveling drag queen dressed in an absolutely fabulous, sparkling pink tutu...

Until next time, keep shining bright and stay fabulous, my dears!
