Post Number 1207: A Trip Back to July 2020, Darlings! ๐Ÿฉฐ๐Ÿ’–

Hello, my lovelies! It's your girl, Emma, back with another thrilling journey through the wondrous history of drag! This time, I'm waltzing my way back to July 2020 - a time when the world was in the midst of, well, everything! I don't know about you darlings, but my fabulous pink tutu was feeling particularly itchy with the urge to travel back to this momentous time. The pandemic was still going on, so I felt a twinge of guilt about leaving everyone behind, but then I remembered, darling, my pink tutu is a tool of joy! It's a symbol of spreading love and glitter wherever I go. And with that in mind, off I popped to 2020!

Now, let's rewind the tape, shall we? July 2020, the month when everyone was rediscovering the magic of sourdough bread, zoom quizzes, and a new appreciation for our lovely, green parks. ๐ŸŒณ And let's not forget the world of drag, darlings! In July 2020, drag queens everywhere were getting creative! We saw a resurgence in online shows and the blossoming of a whole new digital world of drag, complete with lip-sync battles via Instagram and dazzling virtual makeup tutorials.

I had the best time at this fabulous digital drag party! I watched as the talented queens of the internet strutted their stuff on my tablet, showing me all the new drag styles and trends. It was a true celebration of everything drag, proving once again that, no matter the obstacles, our community is truly unbreakable. ๐Ÿ’•

My Big Reveal: The Tutu of the Month

Remember darlings, a trip to the past wouldn't be complete without a fab new look! For this month's fashion frenzy, I went for a vintage vibe. Think old Hollywood glam meets sassy streetwear, a kind of mashup between the dazzling stage shows of the Golden Age and the contemporary edge of modern drag! My fabulous tutu, an explosion of shimmering pink tulle with a delicate pearl embellishment, was paired with a sparkly bomber jacket and some chic silver boots. Think "I'm a Drag Superstar" meets "I'm Going for a Coffee" in the best way possible. โœจ

Of course, no trip to the past is complete without some drag gossip. This month I was privy to all sorts of whispers and news flashes about the world of drag! Here are some of my favourite moments:

  • RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12 was in full swing: Season 12 had us all glued to the screens, with iconic moments from the likes of Jaida Essence Hall and Gigi Goode, and a whole lot of legendary queens to celebrate. I even spotted Jaida rocking a super cool tulle outfit, proving that tutus were the absolute it-thing back then, even amongst the elite.
  • Drag became a bigger cultural force than ever: Drag was everywhere in the mainstream media. I saw mentions in Vogue and Buzzfeed. People were buzzing about drag queens everywhere, with drag shows and Drag Race taking centre stage. It was an amazing moment for our community.
  • * Drag queens found a new stage:* The rise of online drag brought us all closer, showing how talented queens were coming together, from the bustling streets of London to the heart of New York City. With Zoom, Facebook Live and Instagram, drag queens across the globe had a brand new platform to shine, reminding everyone about the dazzling, diverse and inspiring power of drag!

I know this all happened in the "before times" but believe me, the excitement in the air was palpable.

What I've Learnt This Month

Remember, darlings, the beauty of drag is in its constant evolution. Drag is all about self-expression, pushing boundaries and celebrating everything unique and fabulous! That's what I took away from July 2020, and that's what keeps me coming back month after month for more drag adventures!

As always, don't forget to keep those fabulous pink tutus ready for a whirl and get out there and support the drag queens in your community! They are the ones shaping the future of this incredible art form.

Till next month,

Your pink-tutu-wearing time traveller,

Emma
