Welcome back to my pink-tutu-tastic time travels, darlings! It’s your girl, Emma, here, and it’s time for another voyage into the magical, shimmering world of drag history. This month, we’re twirling back to February 2021. Don’t worry, my magical pink tutu took care of the time-space shenanigans – we’re safe and sound, ready to dive headfirst into the fascinating world of drag!
This month’s trip was extra special because I found myself in the heart of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13, a truly iconic season that gave us all the drama, glamour, and of course, the queens. I’ve got to say, the entire experience was simply divine! It was like being a part of history – you just knew this was going to be the season that changed the game for drag, and it most certainly did.
Let me tell you, even back in 2021, drag wasn’t just on the map, it was ruling the map. It was truly a golden age for drag, with more people than ever being exposed to the artistry and spectacle of drag shows all around the world. My heart just fluttered with joy at how embraced drag had become – it really made you feel like everyone had just had their own personal ‘drag awakening’.
February 2021 in drag: A sneak peek into the fabulous:
RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13: We were only a few weeks into the season and it was already electrifying! Each queen was bringing their unique style and talent, and the drama was starting to build - just what we all live for. Rosé, Olivia Lux, Kandy Muse, oh my! Let’s be honest, we all know who eventually came out on top… drumroll… The amazing Symone! Honestly, her grace and talent truly made history. You could tell her heart was in every performance, and the judges just couldn't resist that charm and charisma! 💖
But it wasn’t all about the competition! The UK scene was thriving too, with shows popping up left, right, and centre, and audiences absolutely loving it! The Divine talent Baga Chipz, fresh off her RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season one win, was captivating crowds all over London. It was inspiring to see her success sparking a new wave of creativity.
My fabulous fashion finds: This trip saw me embrace my inner ballerina even more than usual, darling. My pink tutu shimmered with a new elegance as I discovered a whole new level of dramedy fashion! The sheer fabrics, the intricate beading, the glamorous silhouettes – 2021 just oozed chic sophistication. It was everything I adore about the world of drag fashion and ballet rolled into one beautiful package! I spent hours scouring vintage shops in NYC and London, and let’s just say my suitcase had some serious feather and tulle overflow. whispers It was glorious!
What I learnt: Being in the heart of drag history in February 2021, I realised just how much progress had been made since those early days of underground shows and secret bars. The journey from the fringes to the mainstream was one of pure determination, artistic passion, and unapologetic fabulousness. We’d come a long way, but it felt like we were only just getting started.
My big takeaway: February 2021 was a time of major change for the world of drag – change for the better, of course! This time, however, wasn’t just about the bigger picture; it was about the queens, the artistry, and the communities. 2021 showed that drag wasn’t just about competition and awards, it was about sharing, inspiring, and being unapologetically ourselves, whatever that looks like.
Looking to the future: This experience just reinforced my dedication to my mission – to inspire everyone to embrace the beauty of drag! Whether it’s through wearing a fabulous pink tutu, enjoying a show, or simply letting your true self shine – I want everyone to feel the joy and power of expressing themselves! It’s something that resonates across the world, across the decades – it’s simply beautiful!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this journey through February 2021 with me, darling. Join me next month as I embark on another exciting adventure, who knows where my pink tutu will take me next? Until then, remember, let your inner queen shine bright and keep twirling! ✨
