Pink Tutu Time Travel Blog: Post 1219 - July 2021

Hello darlings! Your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveler is back, ready to whisk you all off on a fabulous trip through the dazzling history of drag! Grab your best feather boas, your highest heels, and let's sashay into July 2021.

As you all know, I'm a firm believer in embracing the glorious power of the pink tutu. It's a symbol of empowerment, joy, and the freedom to express yourself. So, naturally, it was in my magical pink tutu that I found myself time traveling to July 2021, where, let me tell you, things were heating up!

A Global Drag Celebration:

The drag scene in July 2021 was absolutely thriving! The whole world seemed to be in a glittery, fabulous frenzy. I could practically feel the energy through the pink tulle!

In New York City, RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 6 was reaching its peak. Our beloved queens were turning looks, snatching wigs, and sending each other packing in a series of spectacular lip sync battles. This season saw a fantastic display of artistry, individuality, and dare I say it... sheer talent! From the fashion to the humor, I couldn't tear my eyes away from my television. You'll never find me complaining about a little extra in drag, so it was pure delight to see the artistry these queens were showcasing!

Meanwhile, across the pond in London, the annual Pride in London festival was a riot of color and celebration. Thousands of people came together in a dazzling display of solidarity and self-expression, united by the vibrant tapestry of the LGBTQ+ community. I couldn't help but feel a little twinge of envy at the energy emanating from London’s LGBTQIA+ community! Seeing photos of the fabulous outfits and parades truly got my creative juices flowing and had my own sartorial urges getting the better of me.

Further afield in Sydney, Mardi Gras was kicking off with a series of events that promised to be dazzling and explosive. They certainly know how to throw a party down under, and in a drag scene bursting with fresh new talent, the festivities were not to be missed. From glamorous balls to dazzling street parties, Sydney's LGBTQ+ community were making a bold statement, and I loved it!

But July 2021 wasn't all about the big events. Across the world, local drag shows were booming, showcasing a kaleidoscope of talent, artistry, and personalities. I was absolutely mesmerized by the talent coming through from all corners of the globe! From sassy, stand-up comedy drag queens in Toronto to ethereal, avant-garde performers in Berlin, drag was truly pushing the boundaries and inspiring everyone who witnessed its magic!

My Fabulous Time Travel Adventures:

Let me tell you, it wasn't all glittering balls and glamorous parties for this time traveler! There were also plenty of quiet moments to be savored. One evening, I found myself in a quaint pub in Derbyshire, my own home county, catching a glimpse of the local drag scene. It was so delightful to see how the love of drag crosses all boundaries. From small town pubs to the dazzling stages of global Pride festivals, the magic of drag has the power to unite, inspire, and leave everyone with a little bit of glitter in their hearts. I found myself charmed by these humble local performances! And there was something wonderfully raw and organic about a local drag show, seeing queens putting their hearts into their performance! I always make it a point of supporting my local talent!

As a passionate devotee of all things dance, it was a delight to observe the incredible growth of drag as a form of performance art during my trip. The lines between dance, drag, and theatre were blurring more than ever. There was so much innovation and originality happening - it really got me thinking about new ways to integrate ballet into my own drag performances. Imagine, if you will, a dazzling display of high kicks, graceful pirouettes, and cheeky tongue-in-cheek expressions in a flamboyant pink tutu… a total showstopper, darlings! A fusion of high art and flamboyant theatrics is exactly the kind of thing my creativity is hankering for!

I spent a delightful afternoon wandering through Paris taking in the breathtaking Parisian fashion scene. Paris has such a rich history with fashion and style and always has its finger on the pulse of new trends! Paris, the City of Love and fashion, never fails to surprise me! My visit would not have been complete without venturing into a beautiful boutique and picking out a spectacular feathered headpiece.

From London to Los Angeles and Sydney to New York, drag was thriving in 2021, making an unmistakable mark on global culture and proving its timeless power to ignite imaginations and celebrate the human spirit. Seeing all the excitement firsthand just makes me even more determined to continue sharing my passion for drag and, of course, those glorious pink tutus!

But the real story isn't just about the big names and global celebrations. It's about the drag queens in your local pub, the aspiring drag artists sharing their craft online, the little girl who discovers the power of self-expression through a magical world of sequins and feathers. We all have the power to create a world where every one can embrace their inner drag queen and live their most authentic lives.
