Hello my darlings, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu! Your one-stop shop for all things fabulous, fabulous, and even more fabulous. It's your girl Emma, your Derbyshire drag queen with a penchant for pink, a passion for tutus, and a total obsession with all things drag. This month, we're twirling through the time portal to take a peek at the magical world of drag on September 2021, and oh darling, it's a glamorous journey!
Before we embark on our time-travel escapade, let me just say, honey, my bank account might be weeping a little, but my heart? It's overflowing! Thanks to all the beautiful souls who came out to see me perform last month at the "Glitter Bomb" ball in Sheffield! Your cheers, your tips, your dazzling outfits⦠they all helped fuel this magical pink tutu, allowing me to venture through the corridors of drag history and bring you these delectable delights.
So, darling, pack your pinkest blusher, grab your best sequined feather boa, and hold onto your sequins, because we're going on a whirlwind trip through September 2021!
New York City, the Heart of It All:
Remember how we all lost our minds over RuPaul's Drag Race Season 13? Well, honey, this month saw the fabulous finale! Kandy Muse, that sassy queen with the undeniable charm, took the crown, sending waves of delight through the drag world. The episode aired on September 23rd, sending chills of excitement down my spine. Can you imagine the sheer joy? A win for authenticity, a win for creativity, and a win for the art of drag itself. Aaaa-mazing!
And speaking of New York, darling, there were a whole host of fabulous performances happening across the city. "The Peppermint Experience", an LGBTQ+ arts festival held on September 24th, saw Miss Peppermint herself, the fabulous drag icon who made history by landing in the Top 4 on Drag Race season 9, take centre stage. It must have been absolutely incredible!
London's Bustling Drag Scene:
Across the pond, London's drag scene was thriving! The infamous "London Drag Brunch", a legendary drag experience on Sundays in Notting Hill, hosted the phenomenal "Ginger Snaps", a sassy troupe known for their killer lip syncs and incredible energy. This was definitely on my āto doā list if I could go back in time. Can you just imagine the outrageous costumes, the laughter, the music and the dancing?!
Australiaās Drag Extravaganza:
But honey, the fun wasn't confined to the States and the UK! In sunny Australia, "The Art of Drag" exhibition in Sydney opened its doors to the public on September 17th, showcasing the artistry, talent, and sheer brilliance of Australian drag artists. Imagine walking through an exhibition showcasing dragās impact on art, culture, and social progress. It must have been simply divine!
And⦠a Whole World of Drag!
The month saw so much more, darling, truly a whirlwind of drag. From Drag Queen Story Hour events popping up all over the world to fierce drag balls taking place in Brazil and beyond, the month was brimming with fabulousness. September 2021 really solidified how global drag has become, transcending borders and cultures to connect and inspire audiences around the world!
It Makes me Wish I Could Twirl Back in Timeā¦
Itās times like these that I really miss having my magical pink tutu fully charged. Imagine stepping back into September 2021! I would have strutted into āThe Peppermint Experienceā in a dazzling ensemble that would make even the most seasoned queen blush. I would have graced "The Art of Drag" exhibition in Sydney in my most whimsical pink tulle masterpiece!
Of course, my darling, while we can't actually time travel in this blog post, we can still live our drag lives to the fullest, right here, right now. Every time you put on your favorite outfit, every time you walk with confidence, every time you make someone smile, you're a drag queen extraordinaire!
