Pink-Tutu Blog: Episode 1222: 10th October 2021: Back to the Future...and a Very Pink Future!

Hello lovelies! It’s your girl Emma here, coming to you live from...well, not live, but time travelling. But it does feel like live, and who knows what future or past I’m in at any given moment? Today’s date, my darlings, is 10th October 2021, a momentous date, and believe me, this post is going to be momentous, because we’re going to talk about something absolutely spectacular, utterly pink and positively fabulous.

As you all know, I’ve dedicated myself to the glorious art of drag for as long as I can remember. And what I remember more than anything? It’s that magic moment when I slipped on my very first pink tutu! It changed everything, truly. You know the saying, ā€œIt's a pink world after allā€, well it really is. Pink is everything, pink is life, and if you’re looking for something extraordinary to elevate your mood and fill your soul with joy…pink is the answer. Pink tutus in particular. You can never have enough, believe me. And that’s why I, your trusty, travel-loving drag queen, with my sparkly, shimmering pink tutu of time-travel, am constantly jumping through time, searching for the ultimate pink tutu inspiration.

And oh, honey, today’s date brought me a truly glorious find. But before I share this revelation with you, darling, let’s take a trip back to where it all began…

Drag 2021: A Year of Progress and Transformation

2021! My dear, 2021 was a year of progress and transformation for the world of drag. And what a joy it was to witness. I saw incredible drag performances across the globe - the queens were on fire, serving us fierce looks and unforgettable stories. There was such an incredible blend of classic camp and fresh, modern energy. Drag was evolving, and that’s a sight to behold.

Imagine, just think back! We had the incredible ā€œRuPaul’s Drag Raceā€ Season 13, which showcased the sheer talent of queens like Symone, Gottmik, RosĆ©, Olivia Lux, Kandy Muise and Tina Burner, giving us incredible lip syncs, stunning fashion and just an amazing time! Drag queens were hitting the mainstream like never before.

Think of the beautiful shows like ā€œPoseā€ that gave such important space and voice to LGBTQ+ communities. ā€œDrag Race UKā€ and "Canada’s Drag Race" were going strong with their own incredible queens, taking drag to a global level. We saw drag talent exploding online, with Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube brimming with amazing, creative content, featuring queens from all over the world!

Oh, and I can’t forget the queens themselves, you see? The energy was incredible, a vibrant kaleidoscope of personalities, creativity, and love. Think queens like Willow Pill, who we saw dominating in season 14 of ā€œRuPaul's Drag Raceā€, or the incredibly fierce, inspiring queens from the ā€œDrag Race UK vs The Worldā€ season. The world was a bright, pink bubble of drag!

And the beauty of it all is, that amazing energy is still spreading. There's a true sense of global inclusivity, a feeling of collective excitement about what’s coming next.

And speaking of "coming nextā€, prepare yourself, because this is where my time-travel took me today!

My Time Travel Adventures: October 10th, 2021, and The Future of Drag

So here’s where things get really interesting, darling. You know how I love to find vintage pink tutus - a well-worn feather boa, some hand-sewn sequins? Absolutely heaven. And as I was exploring vintage drag shops in London, something rather unusual happened.

I bumped into this antique dresser in the corner, draped with a very heavy piece of velvet fabric. Intrigued, I tugged at the velvet and… oh darling… I was instantly sucked into another world. It’s one thing to time travel to the past, but imagine being thrust into the future!

Everything was so sleek, the lights were neon pink and blue, and people wore these shimmering outfits that looked like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. But the real magic happened when I walked into a theater.

My goodness, the show was spectacular! Imagine an all-female drag cast! These amazing queens looked incredible, they wore everything from shimmering metallic jumpsuits to vibrant digital-print designs that moved with their every gesture. But they were still wearing tutus! Pink tutus!

Imagine my delight! The queens had adopted pink tutus but they’d taken them to the next level! They wore tutus made of iridescent, glowing materials. Their makeup looked holographic! I felt like I had just stepped into an interactive light show. And what I saw, dear readers, blew my mind!

This is the future of drag, a celebration of boldness, technology and, of course, an ode to the classic tutu - all wrapped in shimmering pink. It’s an explosion of colours, textures, and futuristic elements. The performance blended classic dance moves with dazzling digital projections and synchronized light effects! These queens were beyond anything I’d ever seen! They were fearless, and their energy was electrifying.

But the highlight? It was a moment when a single queen came forward. She wore a cascading, tulle pink tutu, an amazing swirling gown made entirely of layered LED lights. Her look was otherworldly. As the lights went down, the room turned black, she walked towards the stage and...all of a sudden, the LEDs in her tutu began to light up, showcasing a series of words projected against the screen: ā€œEmbrace the Pink. Wear a Tutu. Change the Worldā€.

That message? My dear, it felt like an instant message to my soul, an awakening, a call to action. It sent shivers down my spine and filled me with excitement. We’ve come a long way since my days as a teenage drag queen, dreaming of one day dancing on stage in a fabulous, pink, sparkly tutu. And the future is...more pink, more glamorous, and filled with queens who dare to be brave and express their inner artistry.

And what about my time-travelling pink tutu? Well, after such an incredible show, and having witnessed such an exciting future for drag, my magical tutu pulled me right back to where I started!

As I’m typing this, sitting in my little flat in Derbyshire, still recovering from the shock of this amazing trip, I feel even more determined than ever to make the pink tutu dream a reality for everyone. Because, just imagine a world where every drag queen embraces their inner sparkle and proudly wears a pink tutu, right? A world where people express themselves with confidence and fearlessly embrace their creativity? That’s a world worth time travelling for.

Until next time, darlings! Go forth, wear pink, and most importantly, wear that fabulous pink tutu, you deserve it!
